Fasting Progess Reports – Carol User:Carol03

REASONS FOR FASTING:
My goal is simply to achieve PERMANENT, significant and noticeable weight loss to improve my health, my appearance, the way my clothes fit and look on me , and to improve my self esteem and mood through the development of personal self discipline and self control, no matter how painful and unbearable. More specifically:
1. For Permanent adjustment of all my unhealthy and intemperate eating (GREED) eating habits to mark a permanent change to more temperate and healthy eating and lifestyle habits to last the rest of my lifetime.
2. To achieve new and Godly thinking patterns where this adjustment and permanent change is sought.
3. To create and implement a new financial plan that includes tithing, investing wisely, living comfortably within my means and becoming completely DEBT FREE of all unsecured debt within 1 year.
4. To break the cycle of fear, doubt, and constant worry of imminent doom. I have no control. God is in control.
5. To become Free of old hatred, un-forgiveness, resentments, and bitter attitudes to everyone who have hurt me, betrayed me, or caused me pain
6. To start a new habit of studying, learning and devoting myself to God’s Holy Word and making the spiritual discipline of fasting my lifelong habit and passion.
7. To look forward to fasting with welcome anticipation rather than dreadful deprivation.

INTENDED LENGTH OF FAST
40 Days

FIRST NAME: Carol

SITE USER NAME: Carol03

CITY, STATE AND COUNTRY: Los Angeles, CA USA

SEX: Often.
(Just joking!) Female (Gotta have some sense of humor in life!)

AGE: 42

WEIGHT: 185

HEIGHT: 5 4″

PROPOSED FASTING METHOD:
Water only. 40 days of fasting to be done in 3 day increments each week on Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday for a total of 40 days (approximately 13 weeks).

PAST FASTING EXPERIENCE:
Multiple fasting periods in the past, Most with success. The most challenging fast that I have taken in the past was a 40 day fast in 2009 where I fasted completely just on water every Tuesday and Thursday for 19 weeks. At the end of my journey, I was blessed with many miracles and had a achieved nice weight loss.

PRESENT DIET:
To sum it up: Eating Large Portions. Eating when I’m not hungry. Not stopping when I’m full. Intemperance.

I have fallen again. I have been terrified of getting on the scale for the past few months because of what it would reveal. But I knew that I was out of control because none of my pants will button or zip up. So I knew that the numbers would register a disaster. Well I finally mustered up the courage to hop on the beast this morning and my Lord!!!! My weight has climbed to nearly 185 pounds!!! I have never been this heavy in my life outside of pregnancy. The minute I saw the weight gauge balancing at 183 I pushed the weight bar to the left on the scale, and hopped off in shock and discouragement. But I have only myself to blame. I have been eating large portions of food with no care in the world. Just doing it perpetually and thinking that it wouldn’t catch up with me. So wrong Carol. So wrong! As God’s Word so truthfully states in the following passage: Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature[a]will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. ~ Galatians 6: 7-9

RELEVANT MEDICAL HISTORY:
N/A

PRESENT MEDICAL PROBLEMS:
Low back pain, headaches, low energy, fatigue

STATE OF MIND:
Always faithful in what God can do through me. Anxious anticipation. Somewhat impatient. Fearful of growing weary once the journey starts. Dreading the “nay sayers” and those that will be determined to discourage and speak negatively about fasting, But excited overall. Confident and Determined that I will reach my goal!

LIMITATION: No consumption of Pork or pork products

I plan to jump start my 40 day water only fast with a 5-Day Juice Fast to begin Monday, September 6, 2010. Today, I am gearing up by preparing to buy my juicer and all the necessary fruits and veggies to begin this journey. I have never done a juice fast before, but am looking so forward to the results! Keeping God first and trying to stay focused on His Word. Truly this battle is between only me and God. No program, diet, pill, concoction, device or anything else that the Billion Dollar Diet Industry has to offer will EVER do! God has already given us the key. It’s time to break free from this prision of fat!

Today is Day1 of my 5-Day Juice Fast. Question: What is the juicing schedule? Am I supposed to be drinking the juice at certain times throughout the day, or only when I begin to feel hunger? Please advise.

  3. Marianna says:

    Hi Carol,

There is no schedule. It’s all up to you. It is adviced to drink when you feel thirsty or hungry. According to my experience and Ron’s advice that I found somewhere on this site, it’s also good to drink juice whenever you start experience any cravings – it gives you time to step back and decide consiously what you really want to do plus it balances your sugar level so cravings should go away. Good luck 🙂

Thank you for responding Marianna. Breakfast today was freshly juiced watermelon and ginger juice served over ice. Very refreshing! Keep me in your prayers everyone.

Ron what an inspiration you are to me! I was reading all the great advice that you’ve posted on the site, and incredibly, you answered some questions that I had in my mind. My plan is to make fasting a life long spiritual discipline once I reach my 40 day goal, just like you are doing in your life right now.

Today is Day 2 of my “Jump Start” Juice Fast, as I gear up for my 40 Day Intermittent Water Fast next week. So far I’ve had carrot, apple and ginger juice followed by pineapple and orage. I am at work for the rest of the week, so when I ran out of freshly juice from home, I had to run down to the cafeteria to buy bottled juice. I know this is not as nutritious, so I plan to juice more and bottle it for work.

I feel a slight headache coming on, but I’m not deterred. In fact, I hope to take a walk tonight to squeeze in some exercise.

No Temptation so far today. As usual, my co-workers brought in lots of snacks. It seems so easy for them (us) to develop the habit of just snacking and munching all day long just because the food is in front of you. This is one habit that I intend to change forever! The organizational culture of my office stems around food and snacking all day long.
Thanks again Tom, Ron and Marianna for your support.

Hi Carol, I’m so glad to be of help! Fasting is such a wonderful gift from our Lord to get ourselves “back”, in many, many ways. We’re all in this together. And I’m getting as much help from you as you are getting from me, in a very spiritual way! I’m sure you know exactly what I mean! God Bless, I’ll keep praying!! Ron

DAY 3 (OF 5 DAY JUICE FAST) – LORD MAKE MY LIFE A MIRACLE

I woke up this morning, went into my prayer closet and begged God, more than anything to let me walk away from this fast with a permanent commitment to practicing moderation and temperance otherwise this fast will be meaningless! And I may as well give up now!

I know that I can achieve the results of a 40 Day fast, and complete the fast with His Mercy and Grace, However, if I can’t walk away from this with a permanent commitment to moderation, then I may as well quit now! In fact, I don’t even want to waste my time and God’s time with meaningless petitions for temporary weight loss. I don’t want to keep jumping on and off this roller coaster and being in the constant cycle of entrapment in and release from this prison of fat and intemperance!

I can’t keep going through this saga over and over again. I am mature enough now to stop making rationalizations, and to know that I’ve come a long way and it’s truly time for the insanity to stop. It is time to be completely FREE! Doing the same thing over and over again is no longer an option. No more falling for some “enticing (but temporary) compromise”. I asked God to let me come out of this different than before! If I can’t learn that valuable lesson now, then I don’t even want to continue!

And on that note, while I was still offering up my petitions to my Lord, one of my favorite Christian songs began playing in my head . . . “Lord Make My Life A Miracle!”

LORD MAKE MY LIFE A MIRACLE

These hands, just ordinary hands are called upon to meet life’s extraordinary demands. These lips could speak the truth in love, but all would be in VAIN unless empowered from above. How could I ever hope to make a difference unless you work a wonder in my life?

Lord Make My Life, Make My Life a Miracle. May your Spirit, be the DIFFERENCE in me! (Be the difference Lord) I want to live Supernaturally, Make my life a Miracle, Lord a Miracle.

This mind, teach it through your Word. I need the mind of CHRIST in this world so distorted and blurred. These feet will run to win the prize. No stopping on the way for some enticing compromise. Oh Jesus in me will make a world of difference. Jesus in me, The Power of the Lord!!!!

Lord Make My Life, Make My Life a Miracle. (Make it a Miracle) May your Spirit, be the Difference in me! (Be the difference Lord) I want to live Supernaturally, Make my life a Miracle, Lord a Miracle. Oh melt me, mold me, fill me, USE ME!!!

Lord Make My Life, Make My Life a Miracle. (Make it a Miracle) May your Spirit, be the Difference in me! (Be the difference Lord) I want to live (Let me live!) Supernaturally, Make my life a Miracle, Lord a Miracle. Yes I want to live Supernaturally (Supernaturally), Make my Life a Miracle, Oh Lord a Miracle! Make my Life a Miracle – Oh a Miracle!!!! Thank you Jesus!!!! ~ Haven Quartet “With One Voice CD – Selection #10

And I’ve been listening to this song today at my work desk with tears streaming from my eyes because I truly want my life to be a Miracle and I want to make a difference for someone, anyone. I also remember vividly singing this song, solo in the church where my (ex) husband and I were married before an audience, and at the end, a woman came up to me and shared with me how my song touched her that day. Thank you Lord. Please use me for your kingdom. For All other ground is sinking sand.

DAY 4 (of 5 Day Juice Fast). With God’s Grace, I’ve made it to Day 4. After consuming pure, fresh, home-made juice, I have come to the conclusion that the store bought stuff that I’ve been buying all these years are void of nutrients and simply just colored liquid loaded with sugar – even if it does say “100%” juice.

It feels good giving my body wholesome nutrients. I don’t feel any lag or weakness as yet. My focus is determination that I must come out of this journey permanently changed, or all my efforts are futile and useless.

Why put in all this hard work, if I don’t intend to change? I have to remember that IF I am in Christ, then I am a new creation and old things have passed away, behold, all things have become new.” ~ 2 CORINTHIANS 5:17.

My 40 Day (Intermittent) Water Fast is quickly approaching. Please pray that I will approach the upcoming fast with Welcome Expectation rather than Dreadful Perceived Deprivation.

Thank you to everyone who is supporting me and encouraging me.

Winding down Day 4. Felt Naseous and had mild pain/cramp in my left leg. Not sure if this is attributed to my fasting, but I am listening to my body. Just resting and drinking water after having a couple pieces of watermelon. Blessings Everyone.

To God Be ALL the Glory! I have made it to Day 5. I weigh 175. (Began at 185). Truly, fasting is a Blessing! May God always grant me the self discipline to practice this spiritual discipline. I am feeling great and looking foward to starting next week with my 40 Day Intermittent Water Fast. Blessings to All.

  12. justdoit says:

Hi Carol! Just wanted to give you my support on your intermittent fasting quest. I did intermittent fasting for 6months last year and it worked great for weight loss and it was also easier to maintain the weight loss by fasting one day a week afterwards. Keep up the good work! I’m not sure if anyone would recommend it, but I also did weights on the days I was intermittently fasting. It seemed to speed up the fat loss. I’m sure you’ve heard of Brad Pilon – he’s a big fan on intermittent fasting for fat loss and weight training at the same time.

Hi Justdoit: I am so happy that you have sent your support my way. Every word of genuine encouragement and support inspires me to press forward. Thank you!

I appreciate you for telling me about your intermittent fasting experience last year. My journey starts this Tuesday, September 14th. I feel somewhat anxious, but am looking VERY forward to my stunning results. Please keep in touch and keep me in your prayers.

This journey is not easy, but as Tom said (paraphrasing) Freedom doesn’t come without some form of pain and cost. I will do some research on Brad Pilon. I’ve never heard of him. Normally, on my water fasting days, I’m pretty low on energy, so don’t know if I’ll be able to do the weights. But looking forward to learning more.

  14. justdoit says:

Hi Carol 🙂 Feeling anxious is normal – so don’t worry about it, it’ll pass once you start it. I tried numerous times to start this fast I’m on and the anxiety got the best of me! But I’m glad i’ve started it. You’ll definitely like Brad Pilon’s concept. It’s not really weight training with weights but body weight circuits – like push ups, lunges, star jumps.. I know you’ll feel tired the first few times, but soon you’ll be strong and toned (if weight loss is your goal). If its spiritual then I guess everyone on the forum will suggest you to rest. But I’ve done it before and ate nutritious meals and got tone quite successfully 🙂 Keep me updated with your progress!! I’m cheering for you!

Hi Justdoit & Carol, The “fun” of fasting is that almost anything goes! No rules! Except the ones we make.

So exercise, lose weight and best of all get spiritual renewal at the same time. Rest when we’re gone! God Bless, Ron

  16. justdoit says:

Thanks Ron! That’s inspiring! Makes me more eager to complete my fast on a strong note!

DAY 1 of my 40 Days of Interemittent fasting started today. Today I fast in Honor of God to Give Thanks and to offer this very small sacrafice to Him as Thanksgiving for the many Blessings and deliverances that He has so Mercifully bestowed upon undeserving me!

I have been blessed by God in so many ways that words cannot express my gratitude to Him. To give up one day’s worth of food in a gesture that says . . . “Lord you’ve given me so much, and I need nothing else” is truly a small sacrafice. Please accept this offer my Lord.

MOOD: Positive, upbeat, hopeful and happy.

    PHYSICAL: Energetic.

BARRIERS: About 30 minutes ago, I witnessed a co-worker being wheeled out of the building by ambulance. Her co-workers reported that she was out of breath, feeling dizzy and vomitting. My first thought was that her recent 30 to 40 pound weight loss may have had something to do with it.

Not sure if she used any un-natural means to accomplish it (pills, shots, etc.) but the enemy placed fear in my heart when I saw her. I know that I too will lose at least 40 pounds by the time this journey is fully completed, and I became scared seeing her. But God has not given me a spirit of fear but of Love, Power and a Sound Mind ~ 2 Timothy1:7. Praise God!

Therefore, I continue my quest in this journey to be under 140 pounds for the rest of my life.

To Ron & Tom: I just wanted to take a moment to say “thank you” for allowing yourselves to be used as a Blessing to so many people. Ron, you may never know how much you have inspired me, motivated me, and challenged me. Today I posted on my FaceBook page some words that you spoke “Patience & Prayer.” Patience is truly the key, for the results will not come overnight.

Also, Ron you wrote some very encouraging words to one of the fasters here about how to deal with temptation – that is through positive self talk and reinforcement and by saying to yourself that the food was here long before your fast and will be here long after and that your time of fasting is a blink of time compared to your whole life. Such simple but POWERFUL words!

Tom, your encouraging words to me at the start of my journey still resonates with me. Please keep being an encouragement and a Blessing. You are truly doing a good work for God! Blessings to you and your family.

Wrapping up Day 1 of my 40 days of Intermittent fasting. A Complete SUCCESS!!!
I have clarified my goals even more. So Tom, I may need you to update my profile. Much love to you both and everyone else who is keeping me in their prayers. ((((Hugs))))

Hi Carol, I love you too! I can’t begin to tell you how much you have helped me! It is only through serving each other that we are healed. Jesus said: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you.”

When I, and my family pray for the intentions of others, we always ask that they “believe” that the Lord will answer those prayers. Because, without Faith prayers are useless! And patience is important because it sometimes takes time for the Lord to finagle the situation….and test our FAITH!

Sometimes it is harder for the “believers” to trust than the “unbelievers”! Like the centurion whose servant was healed by Jesus without having to be there! Yet Jesus’ own Apostles didn’t believe He rose from the dead! It’s a matter of TRUST!

Sometimes the answer is right under our noses, and we can’t see it! But, others that are further away can see the whole picture and understand.

My mom had a great saying…that I have only really appreciated after she passed on: “Let go, Let God”. This is so true, yet very hard to do! Not because we don’t want to…but because we don’t want to burden Him. Or, that we think we can do it ourselves! Baloney! And this is where we get the support, and help from “each other” that the Holy Spirit gives us! And you will spread the Word and help others from our experience! The fruitful Vine grows strong!! Praise the Lord!!

So, the feeling is mutual. I thank you for being here, and letting me help you in the way that the Lord has given me. You are in my prayers always. God Bless, Ron

Today begsins Week 2 of my 40 Days of Intermittent fasting. Week 1 was mostly a success, however on day 3, I broke my fast with only 5 hours left to go. Didn’t beat up on myself, just Redeemed the time the following day.

My motivation is not revved up, but yet I still feel calm, hopeful and positive. The journey seems long, and I must stay focused. Temptation is all around me, and I must continually seek God on this journey.

Hope everyone is doing well. Stay blessed.

    Hello

I am on day 12 today. I didn’t count the days as much before as I do now.

I am tired of drinking juice and I drink less and less. I am ok drinking more water instead.

I have been having shooting pain in the liver area, is that normal or should I be concerned?

    Thanks for the support
