    Hey Once
Why be concerned about a pizza, when there are more things to worry about. no one is telling you not to eat the pizza.
I Love pizza, but i did train at the gym to treat myself once a week. All i say is exersice in your house, or go to a gym 2-3 times a week, you will feel great sweetheart.
There is no preasure on you, its all up to you. fasting.ws can only give you the tools to change…YOU HAVE TO MAKE THAT CHANGE, NOT ONLY FOR YOU, BUT YOUR FAMILY.
blessings and love as always Keith.

because, Keith, it is more pleasant to worry about substandard pizza – over that – I have control!! LOL!!

Medical question: I know that only a long water fast “dissolves” arterial plaque, but how long does it take?

    Hi Once
I could go a domino’s pizza right now LOL.
The answer to your question….cayenne pepper dissolves arterial plaque to,cayenne pepper can also Prevent cholesterol from hardening in your arteries
    Reduce the absorption of cholesterol
Decrease circulating blood fats (triglycerides) and emulsify or dissolve cholesterol particles
Reduces the oxidation of cholesterol in the blood plasma
Increase the excretion of cholesterol carrying bile acid
The net effect is that cayenne pepper may provide overall positive benefits to your cardiovascular system. It may also lower your LDL or bad cholesterol, may raise the good HDL cholesterol and may reduce the oxidation of your LDL cholesterol as well.

Cayenne pepper can drop blood pressure from 118/78 to 98/76 in one month. How do you take it? In a drink. Started with 1/4th of a teaspoon of 30,000 to 50,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU) cayenne pepper powder. The potency of cayenne pepper can be anywhere from 30,000 SHUs to 140,000 SHUs. You put it in an 8-ounce glass of very warm water, mix and drink. It’s that simple.

Needless to say, the higher the SHUs, the less you should start with.

Cayenne pepper is one of the world’s greatest health secrets and almost no one knows about it.

There you have it. I hope this information has been useful to you.
    Best wishes Keith

    hi Marieat
Add some honey to your water.
You should have added lime to your {SWF} this would have made it a little more barable, also add some cayenne pepper to your water, this will ease any bile in the gut.
Hope this helps you for now.
Hold on in there your doing great. how long do you plan water fasting for?
    Blessings Keith.

    • marieat says:

Will the honey help with energy? How much honey do I add (and to how much water)? Will if affect weight loss?

Do I add the cayenne to just regular water?

I have no idea how long I’ll last on the water. I’m going to buy some Lakewood juice just in case.

      Thanks for all your input!!

        Hi Marieat,
Honey will boost your energy and slow weight loss. Cayanne is hard to take and capsules many be easier. Having juice as a back up is a good idea. If I water fast and have demands I have some juice to get me though it.

    Hi all on fasting.ws
I am working on getting a Doctor friend to join our site to help with medical issues that some may have.
I know some of you on this site have medical problems with no medical insurance, so i am working on this friend of mine to help our site LOL, but i can’t promise, but i will try.
    Blessings Keith.

    Hi Marieat
Add a tablespoon of honey into a pint of spring water then chill it in the fridge. It will make you feel better.
Yeah you can add cayenne pepper to water, or you can buy capsules from a health store. This will help your waight loss
    Blessings Keith.
You can also add lemon to your water.

    • marieat says:

      Ok. I’ll do that.

I thought you weren’t supposed to drink chilled water during fasting. That it would be too hard on the body??

After it’s chilled, whenever I feel weak, do I just drink a few sips? Thanks again!

  6. marieat says:

For energy and to raise my metabolism, I was thinking of alternating juice and water starting Friday, i.e. 3 days juice, 2 days water.

Does the water have to be room temperature? Does the juice have to be room temperature?

  7. keith101 says:
    keith101

    Hi marieat
On my 30 day water fast Chilled spring water was good for me, it never done me any harm, i did add some fresh lemon now and again and the odd cup of green tea to warm me up when i felt cold, without milk or sugar of course.
Green tea also helps with weight loss,
Keep yourself hydrated marieat, my intake of water was around 1-2 ltrs a day, but you will know when you are dehydrated, if your urine is brownish take in more water.
    Blessings Keith.

  8. marieat says:

Thanks for all the advice. When I do add juice in (as I’ve been on water for over 10 days and fasting for over 21), how much juice do I add in the first couple of days? Do I dilute? How much juice do I drink per day? Thanks!

I started a journal and my fast today and decided to post my writing on this site.

    DAY ONE / DAY 1

    Introduction:
Last night I stayed up with mom drinking and popped a pain pill. I had decided around 10pm last night to start my fast after reading the “Fasting for the Health of it” book. I had read something similar in on online book before. I had forgotten how moving the stories were. I also attempted to get my mother in on it because I believe that a lot of her physical/emotional issues would be helped by this fasting. She said she was going to research it more. I’m not really confident that she’ll do it for long, I think she’ll do it as long as she’s not really hungry and give up. I have fasted before on the tea fast which consists of a mixture of lemon, maple syrup and cayenne pepper. The longest I have ever gone was nine days and it changed my life back then. At the time I was 5’4″ 189 pounds, with my initial fast and mini fasts after that I was able to get to the 140′s. The mini fast would help shrink my stomach and get back into eating healthy foods again, my lowest weight was 129lbs. I haven’t fasted in about two years now and a have resorted a few times to “healthy” diets and even purging every once in a while but I am now at a weight of 147.4 / 26 years old and feel horrible inside and out. Lately I have been drinking way to much, part of it is due to the fact that is seems to be the only time I am able to bond with my new mother. I have had numerous changes in my life, everything from losing my job, becoming homeless, moving away from my long term boyfriend and friends, meeting for the first time a new mother who had been absent from my life till the age of twenty four, and now living with and depending on her. I have not depended on another individual in this regard since I was 15 years old and am finding it very hard to cope. I have symptoms since my arrival in Hawaii ranging from depression, insomnia, over sleeping, alcoholism, aderol and vikoden abuse (for only about a two week time), back pain, headaches, unusually often occurrences of cold sore out-breaks, weight gain, bloating, self-esteem problems, no desire to leave the house or even get out of the house at times. Contrary to the last sentence it hasn’t been all bad, but since money is extremely tight in the entire household it is hard to get an escape. My mother suffers from an array of physical and psychological problems ranging from diagnosed depression, insomnia, PTSD, thoughts of suicide, she has panic attacks in which she freaks out and then blacks out for about 30 minutes, debilitating migraines that require a shot and days bed rest in order to function, alcoholism and drug addiction. I have never lived or even been around someone with these symptoms. It is hard because she sometimes seems like she is always a victim and I have began to feel a lot of it is in her head and it makes me resent her for not being a healthier happier figure in my life. I read a few cases in the book that had similar problems as her and I. So here I goes, day one for a fresh start. I am writing the journal/diary during my fasting period for a couple reasons; track my weight progress, track my emotions and symptoms on different days in the fast, serve as a distraction during emotional times of the fast, and perhaps as a tool of self therapy to help think through my thoughts when I really have no one else I can be fully be open and honest with. I was hoping to find someone to assist me in the emotions and tribulations along the way. I am very serious about seeing this through to health. I am unsure of how long my fast is going to be, I only know that I will know when the time has come to stop. I am hoping to visit my boyfriend for Valentines day in Boston. If I do, I will plan to end in time to have a recovery eating period just before I go so I can eat normally there.

    My Day so far;

5pm: Well since I binged on pizza, enchiladas and bud light lime last night for my “last meal,” I’m feeling a bit sluggish. I don’t remember being so hungry on the first day in my other fast experiences. I’m hoping to find some answers that will help with temptation. I do have a five year old son and my moms fiance that live with me. So I will have to cook at times and I remember smells being pretty difficult to handle. My stomach is rumbling already (which isn’t a normal thing), so I’m guessing my last meal was a bad idea. Other then that on track and trying to get some further education on the matter.

I forgot to mention that it is my intention to do the pure water fast and wean off as the book instructed.

Out of curiosity, are there any exceptions to the water like maybe crystal light or lemon or anything to imitate flavel while on a water fast?

      Day Two / Day 2

1pm: Last night I got pretty hungry. I ended up eating a pickle, not sure how much that set back my progress but it is a bit frustrating. I kept envisioning eating the holiday chocolates on top of my fridge. I was craving them pretty bad to the point of tasting them in my imagination. Which is a little strange because chocolate is not usually my go to item when I have a craving. Assuming it has something to do with sugar levels. I ended up going to bed same time as my son (8pm) to avoid thinking about the cravings. I woke up tired and ended up sleeping till 12:30pm even though I went to bed at eight. My first thought was go and grab some breakfast. Then I remembered I was on a fast and grabbed my water. My bones are achy and I feel a bit week considering it is only my second day. I lost 2.4 pounds which is pretty nice and does help a little with continuing on. I’m longing for the days of the fast where the hunger / cravings are gone. From what I remember it is about day 3 or 4, right? Today is New Years Eve. It is the first time in my life I haven’t had a boyfriend or friends to go out with. Which I probably wouldn’t have started this first because I would have been drinking tonight. I am about to take my son to the pool and hoping I’m not to weak. I am also planning to take him to see fireworks. I know your supposed to rest a lot in fasting but I am still a mother so I can’t rest all the time. I do foresee going to bed early again. Well guess insomnia is cured… lol

Well last minute my mom came into the room and decided we needed to go out for new years. and since I normally can not afford to do such things lately I couldn’t pass up the offer… I ended up eating so I could go out drinking… It all blew up in my face, my mom and I got in the hugest fight ever and… no… it wasn’t worth it. So tomorrow I have to start from scratch again… :(

Jan 1st… Hungover driving home at 8am from some strange guys house that my mom stayed with. I decided to tell her things she should change about herself in so many words at a time when I should have just slept instead of saying anything… Got home and have pretty much kept myself locked up in my room with my son all day… Went to the pool for a little bit… Had about 4oz of left over steak and was surprisingly not thirsty all day. I probably should have went against the steak and could have called this day one again because I wasn’t really hungry. I know I’m not exactly doing the fast right but I did manage to lose 6.2 pounds in 3 days so far. I’m going to church tomorrow (this is not some new attempt to cleanse my soul). I’d like to get my son enrolled in their program and to join their volunteer program. I’ve started the wheels moving to hopefully move back to Boston where my boyfriend and friends are. I really don’t think I can live with my mother and keep my sanity. Sure I haven’t always been perfect, but if I don’t get out from under her roof, I will continue to spiral out of control and probably lose whatever is left of our new relationship. I’m stating again tom. but I think it should be a little easier because my stomach seems to have shrunk since my first try cold turkey.

One of the first things that fasting taught “ME.” The mind is willing, but the Spirit” is weak’…
It was not your fault you failed on your fast?
Its all the bad things that are surrounding you at the moment”.
These things will drag you down and spit you out as “waste” IF YOU ALLOW IT.
Let your anger go for your mom, this will not help your situation at all.
Love is the key, no matter what you have seen in your life, trust me i have been there, where you are now. Let your past go, accept it, embrace it, move on from it. Trust me its the hardest thing you will do, but let go of your feelings and accept your mother for who she is, then things will start to change.
There is no point arguing with your mother?…She knows that she is wrong, if you argue with her it will send her more out of control. Try something for me?
Sit down when she is sober and try and tell her how you feel, give her compassion, let her know how you feel, but don’t dictate to her about her drinking and the other things she has done just try to give her some understanding.
If you do this, then you have planted a seed into her way of thinking!!!
          God bless Keith.

thank you keith but it was me who choose to stop my fast to go and have a good time, no one else. As far as my mom goes, I was not mad at her for drinking, I was mad at her for much more serious things that I don’t plan to share at this point in time. I do know that I need to eave as soon as possible.

            Day 1 or Day 4,

3:pm Started my fast again today. It has been pretty easy to do so far. I think because all I had yesterday was about 4oz of steak, and was fasting pretty much for two days before that. So I’m not nearly as hungry as I was my first try. My energy level is pretty good to. I got up this morning and walked to church only to realize it is only Saturday… oops… guess the whole new years thing messed my days up. My son and I went to the pool for a while to get out of the house because we are not allowed out of our bedroom in our own house. The only thing I found hard about fasting today was i really would have like to go down to the coffee shop and have a coffee with my kid to escape what’s going on at home, but I then realized that it would only be a very temporary band-aid and that my fasting was a long term solution so I decided to hold that thought.

You will see that i know exactly where you are coming from!
I did mention to you to let your past go?… meaning the things that you have been through growing up.

    Hi There Newlifeforus.
Thank you for sharing your stor’y on fasting.ws and welcome.
I must admit you are the first person to bring a tear to my eye’ on this site. I am sure water fasting will bring great things into your life,” MIND, BODY, SPIRITUALLY”.
There is one thing that i found on my last 30 day water fast months ago, “MYSELF” And the knowlage that there is something bigger out there watching over us’
I was an alcoholic, a drug user, i self harmed, i took everyone for granted, i hated “God” i hated everything, even my family, THEN I FASTED OVER A YEAR AGO.
my family could not believe the change they saw in me. I let go of all my fears; and gave into the things that i could not change! and found my life again.
I am now in the prosess of going back self employed and seeing my childreen again. All you need is faith, hope, and streanth from the inner spirit”
    Blessings Keith.
We are all here to support you on your journey.

    HI newlifeforus
Here is my first water fast diary….

    Tue 21st “July 2008.

Day 1…I arose early this morning, knowing that today was the start of my water fast, i had mentally prepaired myself 2 days prior.
I read up on the benifits of water fasting ie…”Mind, Body, and Spiritually.”
    Cleansing the body of “Toxins.
There is also the added factor of rapid waight loss.
Through out this first day, i have been constantly plagued by a rumbling stomach, and hunger cravings, food is allways on my mind
It is now 1.30am, i have battled the cravings and time to end my first fast day.

Day 2…i have awoken with a bit of a soar head, and the cravings for food are worse now, but i am drinking pleanty of water.
i walked 2 miles today, not sure if that was a good idea.
4pm i fell asleep for a coupple of hours, when i awoke i was so hungry.”I managed to stave off the hunger by reading a book.
My water intake is around 3 liters a day.
I stayed up until 2am, went to bed still with food cravings.

Day 3…I couldnt sleep last night, even though i was really tired.
I got up at 9.30am,I felt as though i had been hit by a bus,i feel really drained today, the hunger is subsiding, but i am a bit shaky.
later in the day i walked about 4 miles. I really dont how i maneged that !
I think that i am starting to find hidden abilities through weakness, i think that when you are at your weakest thats when you start to become stronger, maby thats why i started this fast….amongst other things, iv noticed that i am starting to feel a bit more peacefull.
Went to bed late, not really that hungry.

Day 4…I awoke at 7am, still having sleeping problems, when i did sleep i was dreaming about food.
I am starting to notice some improvement on my skin, i have noticed i feel a bit bloated,
I looked up the net about being bloated, so i have decided to take a salt water flush, 4 teaspoons of salt to 1 ltr water and drink all at once,
Its 8pm i have taken the salt enema….YUK…”This has to be the most revolting thing iv taken in my life,
“Later on the “Hevens opened up !
It has taken 1hour 40mins to work through my system, and is not nice.
    Went to bed at 12.

Day 5…I have had a great sleep last night, this morning i feel energized, with feelings of being more a peace within myself,i feel as though i have a bounce in my step today, but i have niticed that my kidneys are soar today, but nothing really painfull.
Tonight i will be trying something new, “Meditating a 1st for me.
Its now 11 pm, i have “Meditated and found it to be very relaxing. I feel my “Mind body and, “Spirit are moving back into balance, its a really strange feeling, over the last 5 days i have been trying to heal myself from the inside out, and it is trully working, over the years, i have tryed to heal myself from the outside in, this was to no avail,
This is an amazing learning, and healing experience for me.
Its 1am now and time to finish another day.

Day 6…This morning i feel really refreshed and started praying to “God for guidance in my life, i feel so peacefull, almost to the extent of being closer to “God, this is the first time i have felt this, in a very long time.
This is similar feelings to when i was baptised, in the sea 4 years previously. I broke down crying, before i was baptised, but had the same “Spiritual peace within.
11pm, my reflection over today, my life is really changing, my water intake, is about 3-4 liters.
    Time to end another day.

Day 7…This morning i feel fine, energy levels seem to be dropping a little bit, but nothing i cannot handle. This is an amazing experiance for me.
11pm i have been reading my bible today quite a lot and reflecting on my past, i am definitally getting deeper into myself and my veiws on lots of things.
    End of day 7.

Day 8…This morning i awoke with a feeling of well being, food is the furthast from my thoughts, i have been starting to get cold hands,so iv made an appointement to see the doctor to have a check up,
3 pm back from the doctors, and given the all clear so thats good.
9pm my last log for tonight; iv been feeling cold lately, so iv cranked the heating up to keep warm, when walking long journeys i get breathless so i have to rest more.

Day 9…Real peace is now really hitting me, I have never felt like this before.
7pm I am thinking and reflecting now a lot ! I am even starting to think lots more on the childreen in other countrys still srarving to death,
I think now that i am closer with the inner “Spirit.
1am.. I have been lost in thaught all day.Past emotions are starting to surface,
tomorrow is my last day on water

Day 10…Its finally here,my last day on water, tonight i will finish with an salt enema.
11pm my final reflection !…this has been such a journey for me and glad i held on for this 10 days on water alone, i will do this again in the future, i have cleaned some of the cobwebs from the closet and more “Spiritually at peace with myself, and others.

This was a daily account of my very first water fast in 2008.
My starting waight was 13st 4lbs.
My waight afrer 10 days on water only was 12st 1lbs
    Best regards keith.

Hi everyone I’m back! I moved right after Christmas & just got settled in my new house & got the internet going again. I’m a little later than I had planned with starting my fast, but I’m ready now. I needed food for strength while moving. I had no help. My children & I had to move everything by ourselves. It was really hard, but we managed! My back hurt so bad I couldn’t even walk after, or hardly move, lol. It’s just now getting back to normal. My entire body is still at least 40% covered with bruises – maybe more? My sister said I looked like I’d been beaten. It was just from moving though. She said being that covered in bruises is very unhealthy & usually makes people ill & lethargic. Anyone else ever hear anything of the like? Regardless, my body needs to heal & it’s the perfect time for a nice long cleansing water fast! i just started my children in public school also so it will make it a little easier. So long as the stress & worry of them being out there doesn’t kill me. It breaks my heart that I can’t continue homeschooling, but I don’t know how to do my oldest daughters schoolwork so I can’t help her anymore :( . I have been taking cayenne in capsules & it really does work. It makes me feel nauseas for a bit after taking it though. I think I might be better off with just the ground cayenne. I really like it & put it in most everything anyway – I’m a sucker for spicy foods. I’m going to have 1 last glass of juice before I start my water fast :) .

Here are my stats as of right now:
Age: 33, height: 5’7″, weight: 134.5 – not sure what others? My waist is 30 in – yuck! I can’t wait to change that!

Oh & Keith if you are still out there – My resting heartrate was 80 bpm last I checked. Better than it was before! I will check again when I wake up & let you know.

Once – Are you still out there?

    Hope everyone is well!

    ~Nikki

    Hi Nikki

I’m out here! I’m just trying to calm down after this morning. My son wouldn’t get up-and finally woke up when he heard his bus honking outside the window! I have been waiting with bated breath for Keith’s videos…

I haven’t fasted either. The holiday was extremely stressful, and in the middle of it I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and given the drug celebrex for two weeks. I began to retain water until my stomach was like a balloon and I couldn’t see my anklebones! My eyeballs felt as if they were about to pop out – at which point I threw away the d–n pills! I don’t think I am in any condition to handle a water fast-but I am going to semi-fast, replacing dinner with cayenne pepper broth, and have a light salad for lunch. That’s the easiest way to take cayenne pepper for me. It perks up a vegetable broth and really warms you up. It is a great anti-inflammatory, so I’m going to replace those horrible drugs with natural remedies.

I also need exercise, so fasting is contra-indicated. I hope to be able to try water fasting next summer when it is hot. I’m glad you are back. Please keep us posted as to how your fast goes. Good luck with everything!!

cayenne broth sounds yummy & way better than capsules. congrats on choosing natural remedies once!
i think today might be the wrong day for me to start my fast seeing as how something else decided to start today… for me, water fasting & periods do not go together at all – i definately dont recommend it. just 1 more thing to have to deal with. i’d avoid it if possible. i dont want or need to eat though, so i’m going to try this again & just take it 1 day at a time.

Welcome back. This is day 4 on water, tonight i will be doing the yummy {SWF}…

Once hi there, think you will have to wait a little longer to see my vids. I have managed to get a new youtube account but, youtube is not uploading my videos, the reason for this is that i am not working off broadband. I am working off a dongal, so now i have to go and get broadband to upload my vids.
Trust me once i have tryed a whole day trying to upload these videos, but one thing is for sure, i will get them posted as soon as i can.

          Hi John
The salt does not get absorbed by the body, it flushes right through you. The first time i did the SWF well over a year ago, i had the same fear, but when i read into it, i was surprized by the benifits of salt water flushing. It is horrid to take, but worth it, as it cleans out the intestines and colone, you can offset the taste by adding lime.
I only do the SWF 2-3 times during my fast, depending on the lenth of the fast.

Day 6 now of my fast John, day 3 is the worst for me, but once past this barrier it becomes a lot easyer, the weird thing when i fast is that i love cooking for family and friends and constantly watch cooking programs LOL.
Today i feel more relaxed and focused, i tryed to post my videos on youtube but they will not upload as i am working off a dongal, i have now ordered broadband through talk-talk, but this will take up to 21 days to change over, by the time i get it i should look like a stick insect LOL.
          Blessings and best wishes Keith.

Hello Tom, this will be my first time fasting. I will be starting tomorrow, I bought a detox kit for women from GNC and hope this will help. I recently found out I have fibroid s in my uterus. My husband and I have discussed having children and I want to see if fasting can help shrink the fibroid s and help with any other problem. If there is any suggestions you have for me I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

    • Tom Coghill says:
      Tom Coghill

      Hi Vinny80
Fibroids are non-cancerous or benign growths that develop in the uterus. As many as 30 percent of women have one or more of these tumors, which range in size from as small as a pea to as large as a melon. The body does not attack cancer or benign growths as they are seen as healthy cells. Long term fasting forces the body to reassess the cells to determine usage for fuel. I know that fast can reduce cancerous growth so that mean is should also reduce fibroids. It is unknown what will result but for sure, the fasting is good for you and a powerful preventative agent against cancer. It is also good to juice fast before and after surgery.

How is the your water fast going Keith? I was wondering what you will do during your video sessions? Do you dance, sing or play an instrument? Or will it be a scientific lecture? LOL! Just kidding Keef! Seeing that you’ll have an audience you should consider some form of entertainment! Being in the field, I can be your producer/coordinator! LOL

I could not upload my video on youtube, i was at it for a whole day trying, then i found out it was my dongal that was causing the problem, hence switching to broadband. It will take 2 weeks until the router and conection is set up…{BUMMER}.

It’s day 3, 5:02pm. My patience is wearing thin. I am so hungry, that anything sounds good right about now. I can’t stop thinking about food. I had to go to a luncheon today and watch everyone else eat. Today’s been hard. I just want a salad, a tomato, anything! If I can just go home and go to sleep for the rest of the evening, I’ll be fine. However, that only sounds easy. I do feel like I’m losing weight though. I just can’t seem to find a working scale anywhere and I don’t have the money to go buy one. Perhaps I can find a used one on craigslist. Anyway, I should be reading my bible instead of the family circle magazine at work, filled with recipes…complete with a photo of some tasty looking lasagna on the front cover. Only one more hour to go at work.

I can definitely smell myself more while fasting.

  23. bregan says:

Juice fast, my progress Day 1 I started the drinking bottle juices, mostly grape juice. I believe I had 3 glasses of juice, probably about 48 oz total. I also went to the gym in the morning and did about 12 sets for back. I had a glass of cranberry/apple juice when I got home. I wasn’t too hungry this day, but I felt it.

The second day I had one glass of grape juice after getting to work, then decided to look at juicers (after reading more of site.) My wife hasn’t given me the go ahead yet on the juicer, so this day I went and bought 5 bottles of freshly squeezed juice.. 3.99 a piece!!! That consisted of two vegetable (mix of cabbage & other greens), one orange/ carrot and two carrot juices. They were all 16oz bottles. I drank the vegetable on the way back to work. Later, on the way home, I drank the orange and carrot. This night was especially hard, very hungry. I had some water and maybe a little cran/apple juice then went to bed at 9.

Third day, I brought my carrot juice to work. I had a cup of coffee with creamer, sugar, and a couple french vanilla thingies (did this all three days actually.) I left for lunch to pick up wife for obgyn appointment. She let me drop her off then I headed to the gym. I got dizzy before even going in. I bought a blue sports drink, which was zero calories, but with electrolytes and some B vitamins. I did 3 sets for chest, back, legs, and shoulders, so 12 sets total. I decided to do this Mon-Wed_Fri until the end of my fast. I picked up wife and then on way back to work I drank one of my carrot juices. Later in the day I drank some tea, but remembered about my carrot juice I brought earlier and drank that.

So, here I am at the end of the 3rd day and I’m feeling fairly good. I do have some very light headaches on occasion, but its so light I can forget about it. My wife says my breath is a little bad, but not serious. I don’t have a white tongue or anything. Also, I started at 181 lbs and this morning I was 177.5. Originally I was going drink protein drinks as well but decided against it.
I plan on going at least 30 days. Any recommendations on what I may do better?

My reasons for fasting are (in this order): Spiritual, healing (old wounds and mind), detoxing, and knocking off 20 lbs for definition would be nice too. I want the best possible experience and get the best possible results. As a matter of fact, I want this to work so well that I don’t want to look at solid food again, if that is even possible ;)

    Greetings,

Day 11 here on my water / Juice fast. I do water 90% of the time with a cup of prune or apple juice in the evening to keep the bowels moving. My last fast ended at 17 days and in large part due to the fact that I couldn’t handle the enemas. Feeling some light headed-ness but mostly ok. Very tough mentally not to just give up because I feel like I’ve proven myself. I didn’t weigh myself at the beginning but I’m pretty sure I was between 345-350 (6ft 4in Tall) . I am now 317 & super happy at the progress. Hoping I can complete 30 days, we’ll see!

    Hi Everyone,
Today is day 4 of my hopefully 30-day water fast. I am 23 years old, 5’6 and a whopping 188lbs (ya, not huge, 37% body fat freaks me out). I feel pretty disgusting in my skin and I am a definite food addict/bored-eater. I can’t afford a juicer right now, so I’ve decided to go the way of a water fast. I want to cleanse my body, but I mostly am sick and tired of being fat! I am hoping that a big weight loss (aka more than 5lbs, even after eating right and hours at the gym) and a fast will quasi-reset my system and maybe give me a fighting chance to stop overeating. I have tried eating right and worked out 6 days a week even, sometimes cardio 2x a day, but I get discouraged when I can’t seem to lose more than 5lbs. It feels like my body and fat and rewriting some sort of romeo/juliet love affair thing. haha! I tried to start a fast a week ago, but my craving for food caused me to quit and rush to buy some lust foods. My diet before this fast was, let’s face it, basically crap. My scale tells me that my intake was about 2400 calories/day. I also think that I have a really slow metabolism, because so far, water fasting for me hasn’t been that bad.

My main hurdles so far are that I need to avoid grocery stores and watching my roommate eat to avoid lusting after food, that I am having trouble sleeping (brain won’t turn off – more so than usual) and that I have some stomach/intestinal pain. From what I’ve read, this seems pretty normal for the early days of fasting.

My questions are as follows. Please give me some insight or advice :) It would be much appreciated :)

    1. Can I go to the gym and work out? I went two days this week (walking on treadmill 3K/30min and muscle exercises). I read here that muscle work would require protein supplement, but – with my slow metabolism – can I continue to tackle the treadmill/my lack of cardio fitness?

    2. What can I do during menstruation to avoid feeling totally drained?

    3. Can I have hot chocolate once daily(made with water, not milk) (110ml/serving – 94kcal) even though the powder contains milk powder? One main vice that I have is chocolate. I have had 3 days now of hot chocolates. It is processed and probably terrible for me in general, but it curbs my chocolate cravings and the warmth soothes my stomach. I also have been drinking a hot lemon drink with a bit of honey because tea doesn’t really appeal to me.

    4. When I break fast, would I be able to have sushi after a while, or is that a bad type of raw food to begin with?

Sorry for the giant, wordy report. I would like to extend my gratitude for the existence of this site. It has proved very useful thus far and I am excited to have joined :)

      Hi Iisabella

No 1…No you can’t go to the gym whilst water fasting, you should only take protiene supplements on a juice fast.

No 2…Take in more iron, this will make you feel better during menstruation

No 3 and 4…Iisabella its not about that that low cal choc drink that matters, what matters is you and the relationship you have with food?… Food sometimes is only a scratch on the surface of ones self, there are sometimes deeper things” Why people over eat?
It could be an unhappy childhood, abuse, low self esteme, relationship breakdowns, loss of a parent?… the list goes on and on…what really matters is “YOU”, the choices you make in your life right now that matters.
You are a very special person, start to feel good about yourself, go for gold, be focuced. When you put your mind to something and see it through, you can achieve anything
      Blessings Keith.

        Hi Keith,

Thanks for your words of encouragement. I think my food addiction is related to always being fat/chubby and issues/depression surrounding that, but I’m happy to report that my childhood was happy and abuse-free. I guess food is sort of my best friend, but also a foe. I think that for me, I will only feel good about myself physically once I lose some weight. Most of the time I am by no means introverted, nor am I unhappy with myself on the inside as a person.

In regard to No 2., how should I go about taking more iron during my water fast? I had iron pills before, but they were rather harsh on the stomach.

No. 3: The chocolate fulfillment is nice, but the warm beverage is actually the most soothing aspect of it. I can give it up now if I knew that the milk powder would cause unrest in my fast/cleansing/digestive tract. Can anyone recommend another hot beverage that might calm my swirling stomach? I’m not sure I can convince myself that i don’t want something to taste.

I ask about No.4 because I read that a person should eat raw foods when they break fast. I hear mixed things about sushi and I just wanted to know if it would possibly be too toxic a food to start reintegrating fish into my diet.

Thanks again for your insight :)
        Lisa

Hi, I am new to the site, you can read my profile for a bit of a background. BTW, I’ve not yet figured out how to read other’s profiles, maybe someone can advise?

Also, not figured out how to submit a comment that is not a reply. Help here would also beappreciated.

These issues are not the main reason for this reply. My question!

First, Tom’s GREAT fasting book states in the “Fasting Problems And Reactions” section: “I do not recommend chewing gum for a fast as it stimulates digestion, …”

Is it the sugar in the gum or the saliva produced or a combination that stimulates digestion?

The reason for the question and my concern is that I am planning a juice fast that will primarily be Wheatgrass juice. Besides using my Green Star Juicer for large volumes of juice I also use God’s provided fantastic juicer that extracts all the juice available, that being my teeth . I simply grab a big clump of Wheatgrass, shove in in my mouth and chew away. Wheatgrass is such that it never breaks down, I’ve chewed it for hours and it remains intact. But I do get the juice out of it. In addition to exercising teeth and gums during the fast where these items are not used, it is GREAT in controlling hunger.

So, will the saliva generated by chewing Wheatgrass stimulate digestion? Would appreciate any input available.

    Bill :-)

    Hi Group,

Just joined yesterday (1-14-2010) and started a water/wheatgrass juice/Fruit&Vegi juice fast on 1/13/2010. In anticipation of starting this fast was surfing the net and found this site and been monitoring it the past couple days. Now planning on monitoring the site regularly for knowledge, motivational purposes and a place to get tough questions answered. BTW I’ve purchased Tom’s e-books and studied the fasting book. GREAT STUFF- THANKS Tom!

So you know a bit about me, in case I throw in my 2-cents worth every once in a while, I am providing the following:

I am a former 100% Living Foods* (raw food) addict that did not stay 100% on the wagon (fell off many times) over past 5 years. Started into Living foods in March 2002. Initially about 80% living foods quickly migrating to 100%. Stayed that way until about July 2005. From July 2005 until now I jumped in and out of 100% Living Foods usually maintaining at least 50%. BUT, the other 50% was not real good stuff, pretty bad to say the least. This is evidenced by the fact I am now suffering from limitations and ailments that my former 100% Living Foods life style cured. To name a few: arthritis; over weight; cramps and numbness in extremities; unattractive skin; poor energy; poor hair and finger/toe nails; reduced concentration and motivation; etc.

    Previous fasting experience:
During my 100% Living Foods period I got into a pattern of water fasting once a week for for 36 hours and completed a few 3.5 day total water fasts. It is noteworthy that during the 3.5 day water fasts I seemed to always notice hitting a new level of awareness in the last 24 hours and there was a deep desire to continue, but I had to return to work.

During the past 5 or so years I’ve done several 1-2 day water fasts.

My goal is to return to a 100% Living Foods life style and planning for this fast to be the beginning. Why? On my initial entry into Living Foods I did not do any fasting and it took about 8 months to lose the 40 pounds I was overweight. Life was great, to say the least. But, through the next year or so when I incorporated the limited fasting I noticed many remarkable changes in my system. So from experience I know: 1) that a Living Foods lifestyle by it self is fantastic; and 2) supplemented with moderate fasting it gets better. Now I want to find out what a Living Food life style supplemented by aggressive fasting will be like.

Planning on 30-40 days with most days 100% wheatgrass sprinkling in some 1,2 or 3 day water fasts. If the need arises I will use vegi/fruit juices. To prepare for the fast went almost 100% Living Foods 1/1/2010 and maintained 100% Living Foods for past 7 days.

My last food of any type was Wed (2010-01-13) at 6:00PM, it is now almost 6:00PM today, so got two days in. Did an enema yesterday that did not go well since I’ve not yet received the recently ordered enema kit, used prepared bottles only managing to implement about 7ozs of water. So, I then did a salt water flush that was very successful.

My enema kit still did not arrive so did another Salt water flush today.

Fast is going real well, the only thing I am fearing at this point are the social issues. Partners, friends and family just don’t realize why we, that want to live a healthy life, are so intent on being so different. If the social issues interfere to the point where I am not able to meet my goals I will be considering going somewhere like Tom’s place for 30-40 days. I am very much committed.

I am keeping a log and will try to post every so often.

BTW I’ve purchased Tom’s e-books and studied the fasting book. GREAT STUFF- THANKS Tom!
    Age: 65
Weight: 165 lbs at start of fast, was a bit more than that 1/1/10 but my Living Foods approach as specified above helped a bit.
    Height: 5 ft. 7 in

*NOTE : When you see me write “Living Foods” it is a synonym I use for “Raw Food”. Why? When I tell people that I follow a “Raw Food” life style they think all kinds of weird stuff, evidenced by their expressions and questions. When I say “Living Foods” there is rarely a negative reaction.

Hi Bill, I’m intrigued about incorporating the wheatgrass into my fasting schedule! Please tell me some more of your experiences with it, and why you plan on using it exclusively?

I try NOT to tell others (nonbelievers) that I’m fasting. Most casual observers, and a few relatives feel it is bad. I “do” tell those that ask about my healthy appearance, and seem interested in a better life. I am usually coy and baiting, rather than boastful in my approach to explaining the joys of fasting. I don’t waste a second of my precious time with the closed minded.

Prayer and meditation is a must for me during fasting. The empowerment is incredible! The Holy Spirit guides those asking for direction, and words of wisdom to others.

I’ve been trying to make fasting a part of my lifestyle. I’m fasting one day a week, one week per month and one month a year. This year, I’m going for the Lenten fast of 40 days. I use water and juice alternately, as I work a lot and workout too. Someday, I’m hoping to do just a water fast. But, I have had good results with my current program.

I’m a big proponent of “us” ruling the fast, rather than the other way around. Obviously we tend to get discouraged with failure. So we need to set goals that are achieved, and work up from there. As we all know, a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. The most important is the first step as it is the decision to change our lives!!

Sorry for preaching to the choir. You obviously have a great start, and seem very knowledgeable! I just get excited about more people joining our wonderful journey through fasting! Welcome!! God Bless, Ron

    Hi Ron,

Wheatgrass, I’ve been an on/off user of Wheatgrass for several years. I grow my own.

Why Exclusive? First don’t know how faithful I will be to this commitment, it is a matter of producing enough and then there is the time I spend with my girl friend, don’t want to explain to her why I am chewing a big clump of Wheatgrass. And, my juicer is not that easy to take with me. Also, she has a real tough time just with my Living Foods approach and now she is dealing with me being on a Juice Fast, the world is coming to an end, the sky is falling. She honestly feels that something terrible is going to happen, that at best I will turn anorexic. And, then there is the “where are you getting your protein and calcium?”.

As to why I want to use Wheatgrass as much as possible:
One:I’ve let myself go for awhile and I need to get back to that almost perfect health condition. Not sure I want to take on a water fast until I get better. Seems, to me, that doing pure Wheatgrass is at least a bit closer to a water fast than a juice fast. Research I’ve done points out that the nutrients are a huge magnitude of what is contained in the best green vegetable juices.

Two: Social and career constraints might make a water fast almost impossible, but it seems I will be able to mix some short ones in.

I’ve been an on/off Wheatgrass user for years. When I am using Wheatgrass it seems that the body heals quicker, for example stubbed my toe real bad. It turned totally black and blue. In 1.5 days it was totally healed. Another situation, I knocked one on my lower front teeth loose, could not bit with it. I would take a clump of wheatgrass, chew it soft and then tuck it between gum and lips. Walked around all day this way and even when sleeping. Within two days, good as new.

Couple books I’ve read that motivate me toward more and more Wheatgrass in my life are: “The Wheatgrass Book” by Ann Wigmore. If I remember correctly she once had Gangrene that doctors wanted to fix with amputation. She dressed the area with Wheatgrass, for I don’t remember how long, and saved her leg. Another book is “Wheatgrass – Natures Finest Medicine by Steve Meyerowitz”

Your fasting approach is commendable, how long have you been doing it? The schedule seems very similar to that proposed in Paul C. Bragg’s book “The Miracle of Fasting”. This is one of the places I got my initial fasting motivation.

You are correct about not telling others unless absolutely necessary. But what do you tell the next door neighbor that smokes, drinks tons of alcohol and walks around continually with a cup of coffee that you have to turn down his invitation to a barbeque. Or, that if you come you won’t be able to sample his unique fantastic burgers, or whatever he feels he cooks better than anyone else in the world. How do you turn that down?

Yes prayer and meditation are powerful tools that we need to incorporate. After all, we are the sum of our Mind, Body and Spirit. They all work together.

Yes “us” needs to rule the fast but we need to be pragmatic, social issues are always there. Although I say 100% Wheatgrass reality might be that I consume the 10×20 tray of Wheatgrass produced for each day and then do a bit of some other juice. I am not hung up on 100% Wheatgrass and possibly should have not said that up front. It might have been better said, do as much Wheatgrass as possible.

Hope this answers your questions and your preaching is appreciated. One of the reasons for joining this site was for support and conversations like these are beneficial. Do keep in touch, Bill

      Ron,
The following Quoted from following link:
      http://www.thebestofrawfood.com/super-foods.html
“Wheatgrass contains most of the vitamins and minerals needed for human health. It’s a whole meal and complete protein with about 30 enzymes. It has up to 70% chlorophyll (which builds the blood). It’s an excellent source of calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and zinc. Wheatgrass cleanses the body (natural raw detoxer) and it eliminates body and breath odors. The natural value of wheatgrass juice is so high that many people don’t feel the “cravings” that lead to overeating. It’s great for the skin and first and second decree burns.”

There is also a Video that goes into how to how to use Wheatgrass, juice, chewing, etc.

ALSO, seems that the Wheatgrass is working as a natural enema for me. That is only when consuming 4-5 ozs at a time. Does not have this effect when I chew it.

If you wanted you could create a post on wheat grass with your personal point.
You have the capacity to create a post. I would review and repair any format issues and add to the reseach.
A wheat grass page has been on the todo list for a year.

          Tom,

Sounds like something I might want to do. Right now real busy getting some images ready for an upcoming art show, and some consignment work to get done. In fact way behind. So maybe in a couple months I’ll put something together.

          Bill :-)

            Hi Bill,
Photograpy collection???? Cool, I paint abstracts, you can seem my work in the “about” page on the nav bar.

              Tom,

I love your art work! I just recently discovered my artistic side just a few years ago when I did some pencil sketches and then took an art class but never really got past working in pencil, as I had to drop out because of lack of funds at the time. I’ve always wanted to paint abstract, but seem to have an ‘artistic block’ so to speak, when it comes to attempting abstract! I even have art stuff set up to where I can paint, draw, sketch, etc., if the urge hits me and I do try and paint, but it just doesn’t come out the way I envision it and also technique probably has something to do with it. I’m not as confident in painting as I am in drawing, but I try and challenge and expand my abilities.

Anyway, I know this isn’t the place to talk about art, but I just wanted to mentioned that I admire your work and any one who can paint abstract! I know I will eventually get to a point where I can express myself in a manner that I feel fulfilled. Keep up the beautiful work!

              Jamie

              Tom,

Somehow I missed your reply here, possibly because other people’s stuff got in my thread.

Anyway, I seen you art before joining when reviewing the site. Really interesting stuff, I’ve been of the mindset that art should bring both awe and wonder to the viewers mind, your images certainly do that.

My favs are Color Dance and LOve Story.

My web site is still under construction, it is primarily PHP on top of MySql databases, I am doing the development work. Been busy with other creative stuff (learning how to do large panoramics and HDR images) so web site has been on the back burner for too long.

Sending you an e-mail with a link that will get you into my not yet completed site that is best not open to the public. You will be able to take a peek at some of my work.

BTW, are you doing any more art work?

              Bill :-)

    Planned fasting time: 12 days
Fasting type: Fresh Juice and Water on different days
Reasons: Mind body and spirit to be healthy and whole
Health Issues: Not overweight but want to be a healthy 130 lbs. Aches in hips, back, neck and in my right wrist where I broke it and there is still a screw. Borderline anemia. Leaky heart valve from Rheumatic Fever damage when I was young. Sporadic bulimic issues (Happens every 2-3 months, I eat way too much feel guilty, then purge but this is never a common occurrence. seems it happens when guilt gets to me. NEVER been anorexic as I LOVE food.) I am also a VERY fast eater and would like to get over this and slow down, has seemed very hard to me. I also easily get woozy when I haven’t eaten (borderline hyperglycemic?)
I have a pretty healthy relationship with food but I want to be able to slow down when I eat. I seem to have this subconscious sense that I have to eat as quickly as possible to survive. Then sometimes I eat way too much (not too often though as I HATE the feeling of being so full).

Hi everyone! I have been reading several of Tom’s blogs for weeks and reading up on fasting so I could feel prepared. My church calls for fasting at the beginning of each year for 21 days and I have felt called to do it this year. Most people there don’t fully fast, I think they just fast whatever God calls them to and I feel called to fast food.
I can’t fast straight through the 21 days; I can just go for 12 because of a mini-vacation that was already planned. But I am a first time faster (besides ~36hr fasts) so 12 days is pretty good I think.

Day 1: Today was great and easy until about 330pm. I started to get pretty hungry but not ravenous. Getting sleepy earlier than normal. Bought a juicer and am drinking the fresh juice from veg and fruit. I don’t know how much it helps. Would almost rather have water and teas w/ lime or lemon and the blackstrap molasses (for anemia)…ALTHOUGH at the moment I’m not really starving, just have had a headache for about 4 hours. Right temple. Could have something to do with the fact that I got a massage today too. My boyfriend (of 5 yrs) is already worried about me. He wouldn’t say why but it seems he doesn’t quite believe I’m doing all this for the right reasons, or maybe that I don’t know what I’m doing. I need to spend some time with the Lord to find out what He wants me to do and how long He wants me to fast.
My head hurts and brain feels tired-foggy. This will be a hard first couple of days. I love to eat, so pleasurable and I don’t like feeling hungry at all. Makes me want to sleep all day and be don’t with it. I pray for more time with the Lord tomorrow and a clearer head. Bothers me that my boyfriend is bothered. (I’ll call him an aka of ‘Charles’ from here on)

Day 2: I woke up feeling wonderful, no hunger, and no headache, refreshed. Took a shower, no weakness, no yellow tongue or bad breath yet. Sitting here now I can feel a little bit of a headache nut not bad. Yesterday I probably drank 8 oz water or more, 16oz of store bought organic aqai juice (cause I didn’t have a juicer yet) and about 24 oz of fresh juice. (Apple, pineapple, blueberry, blackstrap molasses, orange, lime– then the other: carrot, celery, tomato, sprouts salt pepper)
I think I will put molasses on some tea though because the fruit juice was way too sweet.
I didn’t really get to sit and pray yesterday. I have been given the sound advice to write down 5-10 things I really want to get God’s attention about so I did and had a great prayer time. I do try and practice a ‘pray without ceasing’ mentality though and do most of my prayer all day. (Helps because I have a very ADD personality).
I’m realizing that a sense of guilt has been instilled in me about food. Since I haven’t been eating I now notice a lack of guilt about eating too much or badly sometimes. It also has made me see that I don’t always feel guilty and that GOOD.
Gaining confidence. Felt much better today. Hunger is mild. Charles has even come over and cooked steak both these nights for himself and I have actually enjoyed the smell, it is so satisfying!
going to juice fast tomorrow again then try and water fast from Friday to Wednesday (6 days water fasting) then juice for the last 2-3 days. Thank you Jesus!

Day 3: Felt great this morning. Mind was clear and running last night so it was a little hard to sleep. It is weird to me how great I feel. In my mind it would be excruciating every step but it’s very clarifying and peaceful so far today. We’ll see how the water fast goes. I was so scared before- maybe of starving? – But the body is an amazing thing. It is helping me pray and I feel more ‘me’ than ever. Lord God send mercy to those in Haiti!!!
tongue was a tinge yellow this morning and can feel a small amount of bowel movement going through (I did a 5 day herbal cleanse before I started fasting so I really shouldn’t have much coming out!) –no BM today.
Headache! Sick of fasting! It seems that my mornings are great and then my nights are much harder! Need to concentrate on God to get me through. Head feels cloudy again. Fasting is supposed to be hard! LOL I feel like I need fellowship. Sometimes my body feels normal but then it feels achy, sore, foggy and tired.
So the challenge tomorrow is going to work and staying focused. (had 3 days off) its hard to picture fasting for even the 12 days I’m planning on, let alone 21!! 9 days to go. 5 of those water fasting…maybe. I have to at least try, God give me strength and healing! —OOOH MY HEAD! How can I pray while feeling this icky? But just to pray to feel better?

Day 4: no headache this morning, a little weak but not bad, still nervous about tomorrow and water fasting. Have lost 5 lbs.
2pm-still feeling good, have to work till 8pm tonight (12 hr day) but I guess its fine cause I’m not eating! lol
Jesus please help me with my water fast tomorrow. Mt 6:16 …So that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to Your Father… Deut. 8:3 He humbled you, causing you to hunger then feeding you with manna…to teach you than man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

Day 5: Pimples on chest and some on face (not bad though because of the ‘acne.org’ product I use that is AWESOME) I also have a few on my spine– definitely detoxing! Line of roughness under my tongue. Daydreaming about food. my sense of smell is very acute. sight is too actually- I notice more colors!
first day of water fast is going well (is still morning so we’ll see). I had blackstrap herbal tea today again for anemia. going to put lime in my water for alkalinity. psalms 30:5 For His anger lasts only a moment but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may remain for a night but rejoicing comes in the morning.
Time goes sooooo slow on a fast. I keep counting the days over and over to when I can eat.

    Day 6: (Didn’t write)

Day 7: The end of the day on my water fast (day 5) was VERY hard. It was the hardest night so far on my fast. Was weak, woozy, and daydreaming about food. Joking with Charles about how I was going to go out and find a cow and start munching on it right there! (Gross) Wasn’t just hungry, I was fantasizing about food. LOL so I bought some juice and yogurt and lettuce thinking I would end my fast the next day.
yesterday I drank 16 oz of store bought organic juice (I know not that great but it’s what I had on hand). I felt GREAT but I went to a bridal prevue with my soon to be sister-in-law and they had THE BEST smelling food there…FOR FREE. Free food tastes so much better doesn’t it? LOL BUT I resisted even a bite and was telling everyone that I was just full and ‘No thank you’ Thank you Lord for Your strength You send to me!
So today I am water fasting again since I am work on a Sunday and it is slow (I will be sitting most of the day). Then tomorrow I will probably go back to juice, depending on how I feel, but I do want to make it 12 days. was planning yesterday to end my fast today but with God’s help I am charging on! Lord God thank you for Your favor! I haven’t cheated once by eating! Not even a nibble! I am also doing an herbal cleanse today to flush any impacted feces that might be left. (it is from Arbonne [arbonne.com]–I LOVE their products!) Haven’t had a BM at all for these 7 days but I did do that cleanse before starting and like Tom says “nothing in, nothing out”!
Day 5 (water day) was hard as I mentioned before. I’ve never been that hungry. it probably wasn’t quite the feeling felt by those truly starving I know, but it wasn’t fun. Lord thank you for my blessings, may I use them for Your glory!
I have lost 11 lbs in 6 days (5 days juice, 1 day water) Also noticing my tonsils have had a not so nice taste and bits of tasteless something (??old food??–gross!). Noticing I don’t need coffee (I drank it about 3-4 days a week, 1 cup)
I feel clearer and better than ever today (though it is still morning). my hunger has gone more towards wanting fruit and veg (yay!) – (though a nice guacamole and buffalo burger from Turley’s sounds tasty too). the hunger is mild and it seems I am getting more comfortable with it, not as scared of it. Joy! Thank God! I’m glad I am still fasting and didn’t give up — keep going all who are reading this! Be encouraged in the Lord and let Him guide and strengthen you!

Hi Bill, Thanks for the link and info! Great stuff!

With the vast amount of raw foods data out there, it’s hard to make even an informed decision about what is “the best”. I’ve used many products and have basically stuck with the few that have given me good results. Spirulina has been on my super foods list for awhile and I haven’t really looked at anything else. I usually add it to my juiced greens mix. Now, I will definitely give wheatgrass a spin! Any suggestions on the type would be appreciated. In the frozen N.E. all I have is Whole Foods Market at the moment.

Fortunately my spouse, although not interested in fasting has been very supportive. She actually tried some wheatgrass at the WFM and reported back to me as “ok” with little enthusiasm! LOL Anyway, she is very health conscious and has a wonderful diet of her own. We do clash on some health issues, but nothing that is detrimental to our relationship, or that doesn’t get sorted out… eventually.

I actually had been fasting since the early 80′s! But only one day a week dry, or on water. And perhaps up to 3 days at a clip. But now, mostly due to health issues I reached out and found Tom’s wonderful site here about a year ago. It took a few months to get my courage up, and to be informed. But I did my first 30 day fast last May and healed my body, mind and spirit! A very, VERY life altering experience for me.

Even though my life is still full of ups and down’s I am able to stabilize it with my frequent fasting. Never getting too far from my life changing experience. Of course it has helped my discipline after doing the weekly “one day” for years. Which I did originally as a small sacrifice to God, and to control my weight. I truly believe God was working me early on. I just wish I listened more closely years ago. But, I am grateful to have it now!

I still attend events and parties with smoke blowing, fat sucking, beer slugging neighbors and friends. But, from my “earlier years” again, have learned ways of avoiding the bon affiare! LOL Whether it’s: “I ate already”, to “I’m saving my appetite”, to “I’m just not hungry”, to “I’m feeling sick to my stomach”…which in some cases is indeed true! LOL

Any excuse not to eat, delivered in a calm deliberate manner is usually accepted. At least with my acquaintances. Hey! It’s more for them! LOL…. Also, a half full “mock plate” in you hand, and a splash of spaghetti sauce on your shirt can be quite convincing! LOL

If you get a chance read back in late November, early December about my experience fasting while at a hockey event with my family! Very “priceless”, as they say!

Thanks again for your insight and info! Good Luck with your art exhibit! I am an artist myself, as is half my family!! God Bless, Ron

      Ron,

Been real busy but into day 11 of my fast and doing well. I am keeping a fairly accurate log that includes everything I’ve consumed. Will try to keep this up, and, for those interested it seems to be a bit of motivation, at least for me.

Wow North East, I was in Boston last October and my brother who has an apartment in Cambridge told me that around there they call “Whole Foods” “Whole Paycheck”. I live out west and fortunately there is a small chain called Natural Grocers – Vitamin Cottage. They carry nothing but organic produce at 30-60% cheaper than Whole Foods. There selection is limited but they usually have enough to satisfy my needs.

Type of Wheatgrass, you can grow it, you can buy grown trays at Whole Foods (at least around here you can) , you can get powdered stuff from many places. I grow my own. Do a few Google searches. There are even firms out there that make healing creams out of Wheatgrass, these will also pop up with different searches.

Digging around you might find a bit of debate as to which Wheatgrass is the best. The debate centers on home grown VS that grown in the field over the winter. Advocates of that grown over the winter are usually commercial firms that possibly find it more economical to grow the stuff by the acre instead of by the 10×20 tray.

I believe either works and would rather consume fresh anything than a dehydrated power. But then, maybe the power is better if it has the fiber broke down and so that gets to work through your system along with the juice nutrients. I am a believer in whole foods (not the store). Couple of my favorite ways to get the whole wheatgrass into my system is to throw it in the Vita mix with smoothies and blended salads. Also sometimes just cut it up in small pieces and throw into my salad.

I like the ““I’m feeling sick to my stomach”…which in some cases is indeed true!” I am thinking of telling people that my medical practitioner has me on a diet that I don’t care to discuss at this moment. If comments come something like “Is that why you look so good” I might go further.

Read back to Nov/Dec, you’ve got a lot of posts, couldn’t get through them all, sorry. God bless you for being so devoted, the world needs more people like you.

I see you are involved with music, too bad about the drummer. Some people just never see the light. I believe somewhere Jesus made a remark to leave those behind. But how do you do it?

Did you ever read the “Essene gospel of peace”. It presents a different
view of Jesus that I really like.

Moving along on the Art exhibit work, one of the pieces I am presenting is a panoramic of the Longfellow bridge. I took from my brother’s apartment window. I am planning on printing it about 6 feet by 2 feet on canvas.

      Stay Blessed,

      Bill :-)

I’m back. For the first time, I fasted for a long time (long for me). I had never been able to go past day 8. This time, I made it to 23 days and stopped because of weakness. I’m not sure if that was exacerbated as I started out with several days of the Master Cleanse. But after a few weeks off of moderate eating, I’m back for round 2. Yesterday (I can’t sleep so that’s why I’m posting now) was day 3. This time it’s consisting of water, for those 3 days 2 cups oolong tea, 2 Herbs & Prunes (was recommended on another fasting site) and a hormone gum (and yes I know the recommendations about gum but I’m still taking it) that I take. That’s it. I feel fine beyond not being able to sleep. Not hungry though things are smelling good. I don’t weigh every day because I’ll drive myself crazy so I probably will after a week. Hope everyone is hanging in there.

Welcome back, well done on your 23 day fast.
I agree with you on not weighing yourself every day as it can be deflating.
Keep us posted on your progress.

  36. marieat says:

Tomorrow is day 8 for me. I’m doing really well even though my menstrual cycle started. Not feeling weak (could be the oolong) and not really wanting food, though the smells are tantalizing.

The first two days, I did a SWF, had 2 cups of oolong & 2 Herbs N Prunes (along with my gum). The fourth day I switched to 1 cup of oolong. As the days have gone along, my water has decreased from 8 bottles to 5 bottles. I’m following my intuition, so tomorrow I will have 3 bottles of water and tomorrow will be my last day of Herbs N Prunes as well as oolong tea.

    Continuing on…

    Hi Marieat
how did you get on with the salt water flush?
I find that 2 table spoons of sea salt to 1 ltr warm water does the job. Did you add some lime to offset the taste?
Remember when you break your fast after doing a SWF, no matter how long you are fasting for, ALWAYS LINE THE GUT WITH HEALTHY BACTERIA…PRO-BIOS

  38. marieat says:

The salt water flush was fine. I don’t mind the taste. I always do it the first two days. It was just when I was further into the fast that I had the problem.

I have some probiotics ready and I’m going to have the kombucha tea as well.

Thanks, as always, for your input!

Hope everyone else is doing well as we go along :)

Hi Everyone! My name is Mike and I have just found your amazing web site. Currently I am doing the juice feasting and it is my 22nd day of my 92 days journey. The reason? Well I really have no health problems and or issues but just about 20 pounds to drop. Why I decided to do 92 days? Well this is something more complicated. Currently we are running a small website we have started after my family switched to the Raw Food World and now I feel like lots of people needed an live example that you cannot die but strengthen yourself on a juice fast/feast. I am sure the reason was almost the same as the idea of this web site – to help others achieve the amazing results the owners/authors/admins have achieved. At the end of the day all that matters is to learn and to let our body speak to us the way we understand it.

So far I have had no problems with the hunger nor with any nausea, sickness, cold feelings etc no matter the fact that we live in Montreal/Canada and it is about -20..-30 outside. I am doing karate training with my daughter and I must admit that after the beginning of the feasting all my friends have noticed that I am more active than ever. What I liked in this site is the personal touch of the people who already have passed and found their personal truth. This is the most important thing if you really want to defeat all the fears and sicknesses nowadays. Just another friend who truly understands your reasons is more valuable than tons of doctors and pills that doesn’t really do any good but just harm.

I would love to hear the opinion of people who have already did longer fast/feast and how they started to go slowly back to their normal food. I have heard so far that the time of the process of setting everything back to normal is equal to the days you have did on the fast. So what do you think about the time frame and what was your personal approach as a matter of the foods you have introduced to your revitalized bodies?

May GOD bless all your families and friends (as a matter of fact he is already doing that while you are fasting/feasting as being healthy means life joy for all your close friends and relatives !!!).

      Hi RecipeMagician, Mike
I did a 30 juice fast, with 10 days of eating, 40 days of juice fasting with 10 days of eating then a 44 day juice fast. It may be out a day or two but that is basically living on juice. So yes 90 days of juicing is more than doable. I would have made a few changes if I did it again. I would add B complex vitamin, 2 tablespoons of essential oil per day and 3 to 5 egg whites blended. With that you have a super fuel with everything the body needs in a highly assimilatable form. Strangely I have been thinking about living that was as here at the retreat I fast with everyone who comes in. If you want to write you testimony with a pic we would love to post it.

      • recipemagician says:

Hi Tom. I do not know what exactly you meant by writing an testimony but I am ready to do it. Even more if you or anyone needs some help or support, I am almost always available online working on the “dark side of the health” as the regular doctors love to say about every other type of medicine.

So how can I write a testimonials and add a picture? I have two pictures that I love – what I was before the raw food and what I am now 7-8 months later.

We also have a website which I intentionally didn’t provided as it is not on English but Bulgarian. I have few domains and plans to start a Raw Food website on English too, however I am getting too many inquiries for help (like you do I am sure) and I have not much time to do everything all by myself.

So looking forward hearing from you folks! And thanks for letting me be a part of the show :)

Oh boy! Being so excited about this I forgot to give my results. Before switching to Raw Food Lifestyle (I write this in capitals as I am really thankful to the change :) ) I was weighting 105kg / 224lbs. Before starting the juice fast only 6 months after I got my first raw meal I was already 88kg/172lbs. For 22 days now I have dropped 10kg / 20lbs already. I am 1.78 and my perfect weight will be about 70-75kg/155-160lbs. So as you can see I am in no rush, but the kilos are :) . I do not know what is happening inside of me, but I feel like I am a brand new person. Feel better, react calmer to the problems in life, have no fears about the sicknesses out there and play hard with my kids (we have two – 5 and 1.5 years).

Hi everyone, I’m back! I’ve gotten out of the habit of fasting & am having a very difficult time getting back into it. I was in my 1st wreck last Thursday night & so much is going wrong because of it. Even before the wreck, I think God was trying to get my attention. My boyfriend for the last year & a half just broke up with me. All of my children are sick. Then I wrecked my truck. I was going straight through an intersection & a car in the oncoming left turn lane just plowed his car full force, right into my truck, breaking my axle so my front drivers side wheel ended up on the ground under my truck. My truck had to be lifted onto a flatbed tow truck to be towed away. The entire front end of the other car was crushed in. He is saying I ran a red light, but I’m pretty sure I would’ve noticed if my light was red. My now ex-boyfriend had to come & get me & I am still using his car until I can get my truck back. I have to find a way to come up with $1000 for my deductible to get it back. I’m also on my ex-boyfriend’s insurance policy & if they somehow decide I’m at fault, our insurance rates will go up, hurting our relationship even more. The next day I was hurting so much, I finally went to the dr. The dr. sent me with her notes to the e.r. In her notes were random answers to questions I was never even asked. It stated that I use illegal drugs & a copy was sent to my car insurance company. I have no idea how she could come up with that answer, or how a medical professional could make such a serious mistake. I went back the next day to try & get it corrected. I even tried to get them to let me take a drug test but they said no. They said the only way it could get changed now, is if the dr admits she was wrong & approves the change. It may even be too late? My insurance company now has a medical document from the accident stating that I use illegal drugs, when I absolutely do not. How does something like that happen? There were many other false statements in her notes as well, but that’s the only one that could destroy my life. So I wasn’t concerned about anything else. I think it’s God’s way of getting my attention to show me how much I need him. So I really need to fast to supplement my prayers. Fasting will also help my body to heal from the accident. I’m planning a 10 day fast, starting now with distilled water, & some herbal tea. I will probably juice some lemons to add to some of my water every now & then. I may supplement with cayenne as well, but nothing else. I also started my menstrual cycle today. History has taught me that’s the worst time to start a fast. It would be better if my cycle didn’t start until after I got through the first 3 or 4 days of my fast, or if I could wait until it was over, or nearly over when I start my fast. I can’t help it though, I need God right now. Hopefully it will go a little better this time. I’ve gained 10 pounds & 10 inches around my waist in the past 6 days since my accident. I’ve been eating too much & haven’t been able to get any excercise due to my injuries. I sprained my neck & my right arm & bruised my right shoulder bone. The dr. said I should expect my neck to take several weeks to heal & I may need physical therapy. I was prescribed muscle relaxers, pain killers & anti-inflammatories. I will not be taking any of them as I am fasting now. It wouldn’t make much sense to fast & pour toxins into my body at the same time. Ok, I’m 33 years old, female, 5’7″, 142 pounds today. This is day 1 of my 10 day water + lemon + cayenne + herbal tea fast. I am so thankful for the support of this site, it has helped me so much.

God be with you & bless you all!

    Hi Nikki
    WELCOME BACK …LOL.
Really sorry to hear about your boyfriend, and the problems with all the hassles you have been through.
Sometimes these things are good Nikki.
It allows us to reflect on what is good’ and bad’ for us.
Maybe its a blessing for you.
Sometimes we take the negative out of something that is positive in life.
Trust me when I say I have been through it all AND came out a better person.
    Blessings Keith.

I say the same thing to other people all the time, lol. I guess sometimes I forget to listen to my own advice, lol. I think I just got a little overwhelmed. Regardless though, this is the perfect time for drawing closer to God :)
I’m so thankful for the support of this site!

Hey Nikki we are not here just for fasting you know LOL.
Its great to have friends that understand, and listen without judging.

That really must have scared you when your truck was smashed into by another car, were you injured?

You should get another Doctors opinion. That sounds nuts if your doctor has said that you were on drugs at the time.
      Blessings Keith.

  46. Nikki says:
    Nikki

The dr. never said anything to me about drugs, or even asked about any habits. I think it got put in my notes by accident, but that’s a very serious accident!! I wouldn’t think a dr. would ever make a mistake like that? They answered many questions for me regarding the accident & my medical history that they never asked me. The notes said I am married, but I’m not – they never bothered to ask. They said I am a non-smoker, non-drinker -lucky guess because they never asked. It said I use marijuana – they never asked that either, nor did I take any type of test. When I saw it I actually went back & asked for a test, but they refused to give me one, saying that I could not be given a test & it is up to the dr. whether it gets changed or not. As for the accident itself, they said I was in a car & my car was hit by a truck. When in fact, I was in my truck & was hit by a car & I told her that. Notes said, both airbags deployed. I told her no airbags deployed in either vehicle & she even told me she was surprised they didn’t. She said I was wearing my seatbelt (I was) & I found myself on the floor of my car -not sure how that could even be possible? They never asked me any questions about my medical history & just answered no to everything – when some of the answers should have been a yes had the asked. For example it said I never had chest pains & I did. It’s just a big mess. I was thinking, it might help that so many other answers were wrong too – unless it just makes them think I was on drugs at the time & didn’t know what I was talking about lol. The insurance company will certainly know I was in a truck & was hit by a car, not the other way around & that the airbags did not deploy. So maybe that will help me & they will consider since those were wrong the drug answer could be too. I would’ve never guessed that a dr. could ever mess up that much. I don’t know what I can do now. They won’t let me talk to the dr. myself now, they just keep saying they’ll let me know.. I just found out this morning that my truck is totalled & it can not be fixed. The insurance company should give me a check, but I’m guessing it won’t be anywhere near enough to replace my truck. It blue books at about $15k, but they are being sold for $24k. I don’t know what I’m going to do except pray, pray, pray!
I’m not hurt too bad, nothing is broken. My neck is badly sprained. Dr. says it will take several weeks to heal & I should get physical therapy. I also have a bruised shoulder bone. That car did hit me really hard. I think he sped up to hit me. I think he probably had to have to do that much damage. His car was totalled too, his entire front end was completely crushed in. He keeps making up more witnesses that weren’t really there to say it was my fault. He says I ran a red light. Ugh.. It can only get better now though right?

    Hey Nikki
It sounds like to me you are still in shock?
I was in a car crash a few years ago and was walking about like a zombie for about 2 weeks.
I was only the passenger. The driver was a nurse friend of mine, she had one to many and smashed into a car, writing off another 2 at the same time.
I walked home after the crash and was still in shock 2 weeks later.
Did you have a puff of marijuana on the night of the crash?
It sounds all messed up to me, but im sure you will be fine no matter what happens.
    Blessings Keith.

Lol, of course not silly! I don’t do drugs. However I did take my prescription a couple times since the accident which is probably just as bad, only they are legal lol. Still I try not to take anything even if it is prescribed for me because its still putting unnatural synthetic toxins into my body. I’d rather look for natural remedies. They did prescribe me ibuprofen, vicodin & a muscle relaxer that I cant even pronounce.. I’ve heard that some of that can show up as marijuana on a test, but I am they have tests that are advanced enough to differentiate if that’s the case. Either way, I shouldn’t have any trouble proving that I don’t use marijuana – the dr just might though? Maybe the cop too, they both seemed awfully confused, lol. I would never do it though. The way I see it, I don’t have any brain cells to spare!
Anyway I’m fasting now – day 1 again.. Seems like everytime I break my fast, something terrible happens. The first time, I lost my boyfriend, after that, I lost my truck. I broke my fast again last night & woke up this morning to water dripping from my kitchen ceiling that had leaked from the toilet upstairs. When it rains, it pours I guess! I kinda fell apart today, thought I was going to have to move out of my house too, not yet though. I really need to stick with my fast this time, I don’t have much left to lose! I started reading the book of Job today & I think things will get better eventually. I just need to learn something first – probably how to stick with my fast again!
I do have 1 question though.. 2 weeks ago, I had a 26 inch waist. Today my waist is 36 inches & I look like I’m 7 months pregnant. How can that happen? How can my waist grow 10 inches in 2 weeks?? What is it do you think? I never knew that was even possible.

  49. Nikki says:
    Nikki

Ok so I answered my own question. I was retaining massive amounts of water. I started urinating a lot & already my tummy is starting to flatten again. That really is just amazing though. I used to always retain a ton of water & I never could get rid of it until I started fasting. Thats when I realized I was allergic to dairy & started avoiding it. I guess I kind of forgot how bad I retain water & how fast I can get so big. I’ve been eating quite a bit of cereal with milk lately + with it being that time of the month – it’s no wonder I got so big so fast!
I will probably be posting a lot the next few days to help me get going on this fast. I really can not break this fast this time. I’ve been starting day 1 over every day. I was fasting all the time for a while there & it got so easy. So I thought I’d be able to fast again whenever I wanted without any trouble whatsoever. Since I got out of the habit, it’s like starting all over again. I’m determined this time, I can’t & won’t fail again. I’m actually starting to get excited about how good this fast will be for me! :)

    God bless y’all!

Well I managed to finally make it through day 1. I’m really sick already though. I have been for about half the day. I’m really surprised I got sick so fast? It feels like someone is stabbing me in the head & I’m really nauseas & achey. I feel kinda like I got a flu or something. I guess that makes it the perfect time for fasting..

wow so i just weighed myself again & i am 134 today! Yesterday morning I was 143. Not sure how that’s possible but I sure can gain & lose a lot of weight pretty rapidly! I will keep ya posted how that goes. I’m sure it will slow after that initial big plummet though, lol.
I just got out of the shower – that was a chore! I felt very weak & faint while in there, but got an instant energy boost when I got out. I guess I better make the most of my energy & get the housework caught up & the shopping done while I still have the energy to do it!

    God’s blessings to all!

  53. marieat says:

Congrats Nikki on the weight loss. Be careful though. We don’t want you having any extra problems from your accident.

I’m on day 18 today. Still doing fine as far as the water. I’ve plateaued for days though :( I’m going to start a little light exercising today but is there anything else that will get me off the plateau? Thanks!

  54. Nikki says:
    Nikki

you could try supplementing with cayenne pepper. it may bother your tummy a little at first, but it works good & usually gets people off the plateau. you can mix it in your water or you can buy it in capsules too. hope that helps!

i think fasting should give my body a chance to heal from the accident? i wouldn’t think it could cause any problems?

  55. marieat says:

Thanks Nikki. I hope you’re all healed or will be :)

I actually had 8 oz. of juice (added 8 oz. of water to that) last night. I dropped 3 pounds today. Should I go back to all water today or go with juice/water?

      Hi Sarah
How long do you plan to fast for?
You can read as much as you can take in on fasting.ws through various pages on the site, its wise to learn as much as you can ie…breaking a fast before you even start one, so you don’t have problems later.
      Blessings Keith.

    Hi Keith,

Hope everything is well with you.
I am on vacation and beautiful weather down here in New Zealand.

How did your 30 day water fast go? I lost touch and cannot find any comments from you about it.
Do you have your experiences written down somewhere?

I will go ahead with my 30 day water fast when I get back to the ship in March and will probably start sometime in the end of that month.

I think I mentioned that after my 10 day water fast I am no longer allergic to deodorants?
It might sound like a trivia thing, but to me it is fantastic!
The fasting had to have contributed to this.

The second good thing that happened to me after the fast was that I had two bumps on my skin that I periodically would squeeze out some foul smelling yellow “stuff”. One on my back and one on my left chin.
I have had that for many years, but now it is all gone. I guess the body “consumed” this during my fast?

If you want me to, I could give you a progress report when I start my fast?

    Cheers, Didrik

    Hi Didrik
Its really good to hear from you mate. I wish i was there in New Zealand with you lol.

I started my 40 day water fast half heartedly over a week ago, but i have a lot of stress at the moment, thus stopping it.

When i focus 100% on my 40 days then i will really see it through to the end. The time is not right for me at this moment, when it is then as i said i will post on youtube. I now have droadband so i can upload my daily progress.

Great to hear some of your probs have been rectified through fasting Didrik.
I would be great if you can post your daily progress here and on my baby site lol. As you know we are always here to help and guide you on your fasting journey, but there is one thing that i have to say to you Didrik, 30 days on water will open your eyes into a whole new realm?….lol.
I hear people on this site saying they have done the big one 40 days on water.
Hey that’s great but what i cant understand is why do 40 days on water with ought reading or studying on the good and bad of a fast ie…breaking a fast is worse than starting one lol, you have to know why you wan’t to fast in the first place, whether for weight loss, spiritual, mental.
People mistake fasting for a quick fix of their inner problems.
Ill stop there before i boar you lol.
Blessing and keep in touch Keith.

I’ve done 3 fasts lasting 5 days each, I just can’t seem to get passed that 5th day. My goal is to go for 41 days on a water and juice fast, I was just wondering what people thought of vitamin drinks like VitaminWater. I’ve been drinking it instead of soda for a while… I still drink soda, just not as much anymore, I was wondering if there was any actual benefit anyone here would know pertaining to fasting with it.

I’m 26, 6ft, 270lbs :( , doing a juice/water fast, and wanting to get rid of some weight, but mostly wanting some spiritual growth, and maybe to 1up Jesus lol… i kid about that Jesus bit.

    • Ryan says:

I just wanted to add that I’m on day 2 of what is hopefully my 41 day fast on not another 5day… something about Friday just makes me succumb to temptation lol.

        Oikle

        Hi Ryan,

How’d you go getting past Friday? Just be careful with Vitamin Water and check the labels. Not sure what country you are in but if it is anything like Australia you’ll find that it only has about 5% juice, an exorbitant amount of sugar and a relatively low quantity of nutrients.

Good luck with the rest of your fast :) ,
        Erica.

        • Ryan says:

Thanks for the support Erica :)

Hah, Friday didn’t go too well, had a few pints and some nachos. I had read somewhere that alcohol, while not advised, was ok, it sure is less expensive drinking on a 5 day food free stomach though lol

Maybe adding alcohol to the mix just doesn’t work with fasting, it makes me want cheap, unhealthy foods.

I’m gonna start back up on Sunday night, Monday morning. Hopefully things go a lot better this time, no alcohol for 40 days though :( lol

Oh, and the Vitaminwater is pretty much the same here, but it’s pretty much half of everything a coke has, so I think it might be a bit, just a bit, healthier alternative.

OK, I will do a day by day update. Do you want me to do one post for each day, or do you want me to ‘plunk’ one post down for all the days?

The purpose of this fast will be the same as for the first one; I want to boost my white blood cell count.
Incidentally; my WBT increased by 18% after the first fast I had. Whether or not that was coincidental, I don’t know, but this time I will take a WBT test before and after the fast.

    All the best,

    Hi All! Happy Lent!!

I was thinking of talking about my Lenten fast. Then I thought again. I noticed that talking sometimes stands in the way of our goals. We set ourselves for failure. Remember the saying: “Just Do It!”. It can apply to fasting. At least for me!

I used to tell my gramma (God rest her), that I was fasting and she would be constantly asking me how I felt, and worrying about me. And now, my wife seems to ask me MORE if I want something to eat during my fasts. My kids ask me if it bothers me, when they cook something. Friends and colleagues at work (unconsciously I hope) put coffee on my desk (the one thing I miss during a fast!!!) and ask me out to lunch. It seems I’m bombarded with offers for FOOD!!! And mostly from people who know I fast!! I try to decline offers without stating “I’m fasting you Idiot!” LOL

So…. I read, and took some scriptures to heart!

Matthew 6:16-18 >”Moreover when you fast, be not as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; that thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret …”

This has helped me to get through my extended fasts. I don’t really believe the devil is behind most of the offers for food like some do. Because, when people “know” we are fasting it is just on their minds. It’s like a man I knew that had his hand cut off in an accident. I was with him at an event involving our children, and it seemed every conversation had “something to do with hands”! LOL ..Fortunately the gentleman had a very good sense of humor.

I try to talk more about fasting, while I’m NOT fasting! I love to get new fasting buddies, and show them the joy. But, I also try to keep “my” fasting spiritual, personal and a gift
to our Lord. The blessings that follow are truly exciting and wonderful. And He seems to help me through it better. I have, and do fast for weight loss, recreation (if you can believe that! LOL), healing & cleansing, and just to show myself I can do it! But, bringing the Lord into it gives me a whole new meaning, and a fasting partner! I’ve had many, MANY prayers answered during my extended fasts! HE WILL NOT TURN A DEAF EAR DURING A HOLY FAST!!!

I’m just offering “Food” for thought (pun intended! LOL)! I think it “may” be fine talking extended fasts here because we are all in this together. But we should keep in mind our Lords words. The Father loves our praises in secret. It makes Him feel special and like He is the ONLY one in our lives!

Plus, not talking about “our fast” to others in general will keep us from looking like failures when we slip. Or being tempted by them, with “OUR” unconsciencously induced thoughts about food. And, it keeps people who don’t understand from thinking we may fall over dead from a lack of food. God Bless You, and keep you, in this wonderful season of Lent! Ron

    • Oikle says:
      Oikle

      Hi Ron,

Thanks for your post. I started a fast 4 days ago and Matt 6:16-18 has also given me a lot of strength when I’ve been tempted to start whinging, boasting or feeling sorry for myself.

In regards to talking to people about my fast, I’ve been relatively quiet about it so I don’t make a spectacle of myself. About 2-3% of the ppl I work with are Christian so the majority would not understand my reasons for fasting. They just look at me a little strangely due to the amount of juice I’m drinking (but then again, they think I’m weird anyway LOL).

I have, however, chosen to tell a few of my close Christian friends so that I can make myself accountable to someone and also for prayer support during my fast.

Just a few thoughts on the matter :) .

      • Ron says:
        Ron

        Hi Erica!

I also tell people about my fast. Each for different reasons. Some, because I want them to know the joy. And fellow fasters, because I want to share. Others because they ask. And still more, because I don’t want to lie to them.

The important thing I have found in fasting is: “I rule my fast.” So…there are no rules! LOL

In short; If I don’t say anything, there is no one to report to. Except God. And myself.

I don’t want to get too profound here, but…If we stay close to God and fasting we can’t go wrong! I’ve made fasting a part of my life, as God is. I try to fast one day a week, one week per month and one month each year. Notice I said “try”? I am not immune to failure!! LOL…I’m a “big dud” at times.

But because I stay close to fasting many things happen. For one, God helps me! Second, I can taylor make my fasts (i.e. I choose the times around my life). And if I slip? There is always my next fast, that is not far away! It works out perfect for “me”.

Erica, I’m just sharing here. I don’t expect everyone to enjoy this life style, or point of veiw. But, it does offer another way to look at fasting as a lifestyle!

I have been fasting for years, but it was only last year that I did an extended fast. It changed me so much, I did a second after that! I felt alive, free, blessed, revitalized….AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, CLOSER TO GOD!! It also made me realize I wanted that feeling forever! If someone can be reborn through fasting, it was me!

God Bless, and I’ll keep you in my prayers during your fast. Ron

    Hi Ron
I thank you for your words of wisdom. I really had no reason to start my 40 day water fast in the past month or so, but i will be embarking on the 40 days very soon.
I need real spiritual guidance now after being told that i would not get to see my children via a court appointed solicitor. I am due back this Friday morning to go before the judge, all hopes now have faded. My past was stupid and foolish, but i always loved my children and cared for them.

I need to have a big talk with God and ask him what he wants from me in this new fast Ron lol.

People say hope is all that one has?…What if hope is gone, what then?

Blessings Ron, to you and family Keith.

Wow Keith, that’s really rough! My thoughts and prayers are with you as you struggle through this valley. I’m not married and I don’t have any children but as I also don’t really have any family, my pets are my family. Recently I had to put down one of my dogs due to cancer. When I started the car to take him to be put down, God had this Casting Crowns song below playing on my car stereo. I hope it helps you as much as it help me.

      Praise You In This Storm

      I was sure by now
God You would have reached down
      And wiped our tears away
Stepped in and saved the day
But once again, I say “Amen”, and it’s still raining

      As the thunder rolls
I barely hear Your whisper through the rain
      “I’m with you”
      And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
      And takes away

And I’ll praise You in this storm
And I will lift my hands
For You are who You are
      No matter where I am
      And every tear I’ve cried
      You hold in Your hand
      You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

      I remember when
      I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry to you
And you raised me up again
      My strength is almost gone
      How can I carry on
      If I can’t find You

      But as the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain
      “I’m with you”
      And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
      And takes away

I lift my eyes unto the hills
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
The Maker of Heaven and Earth

The other thing that helps me when I’m going through the valleys is Romans 8:28 – “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

      God bless,
      Erica.

Hi Keith, Believe me, I have to wake up everyday and remind myself of those words! It’s a battle. But “if God is with us, who can be against us?”

I will be praying very ferverently that everything works out for you. Keep in mind St. Francis’ beautiful, powerful prayer, and reconsiliation is always possible in many way!

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
    Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
    where there is injury,pardon;
    where there is doubt, faith;
    where there is despair, hope;
    where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
    to be consoled as to console;
    to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
    For it is in giving that we receive;
    it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen

    Hi Oikle
Thanks for your blessings that was sweet. I walked into court yesterday with no hope at all, before I entered the court I saw the x on her own and told her that I was remorseful for letting her and my children down in the past but I was ill at the time, its been over a few years since iv seen my children, and its been over a year now that iv been fighting to see them via the court system.
Anyway what happened next was not short of a miracle, the Judge overruled his court appointed solicitor, saying that she was very respected in the court system but this time he didn’t agree fully, he mentioned that I have a long steep hill to climb, he dismissed my x girlfriends solicitors views that i should not be allowed to see my children, she was socked to say the least, then my x girlfriend started to argue with the Judge, which did not go down to well with him. When i heard what she was saying to him i was shocked, she was so full of hate.
The Judge has set a full hearing for the 4and5th may.
My Solicitor was shocked to, he honestly thought that that was it for me, and no contact would be granted, but the door has been left open, so its back to court again.
Thanks for your prayers Ron Tom and Oikle.
    Blessings Keith.

Wow Keith. God truly is incredible and he never ceases to amaze me. I’m fasting until Palm Sunday so I will keep you in my daily prayers during this time.

Just a couple of verses that have helped me when it seems like there is no hope:

      Ps 121:1-2
I lift up my eyes to the hills
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

      Ps 42:5
Why are you downcast, O my soul?
      Why so disturbed within me?
      Put your hope in God,

      My Saviour and my God.

Never lose hope regardless of how bad it seems at the time. With God on your side anything is possible. Also, remember not to underestimate the power of God. Who knows, he might decide to bring an even bigger miracle your way right out of left field ;) .

      Hi Keith

Family court is deathly stressful!! I have been through it – although here in California the judges are vigorously in support of the fathers’ rights – no matter what!! And several times my lawyers advice backfired on me in the worst ways. The judge last time insulted me and pretty much called me a crazy woman and worse!!, while my ex-husband smirked, and I never said a word in my defense. UGH!! No WAY could I conceive of attempting to fast through all that!! Even God wouldn’t suggest it until things have calmed down. Adrenalin and cortisol flooding my bloodstream and making my heart race for hours in a courtroom while on a water fast would end in my succumbing to cold/flu and face/down exhaustion. My advice (which I know you haven’t asked) LoL .. based on years of experience is that the truth will not necessarily win out in court but so what – just be quiet and cooperative, and let them know that your only concern is your kids, and a healthy relationship they need with you, now that you are a safe and stable parent. Eventually they’ll be back with you. Good ol’ Judge Slabach over here would have ripped your ex a new one for badmouthing you!!

I have tentitively started a juice fast…don’t know for how long. I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis a couple of months ago, and my ankles and feet are really painful. My hands and fingers slightly less painful, but three family members and one dentist have asked that I pull some of the spiderwebs off my old violin and start playing…that’s scary, But Physically, am working on the theory that my food intolerances are ramping up and causing big problems. Bread and cheese,- the staple of my forebears. And of course the beer – that’s a real problem food. It took me a couple of weeks to get rid of the beer, and then that detox which was quite unpleasant. I’m pretty sure my liver would like a makeover…The large hard bloated belly I have had lately is draggin on my back and causing real pain for the first time in my life. Besides I look penguin-shaped in family photos…

So I am embarking on a juice fast to shrink the beerbelly, and ditch about 30 lbs. I want to find that sweet spot where I’m not gaunt & stringy-necked, but still feel strong and light on my feet. And then, after the juice fast, I want to be retested for RA. I honestly believe I can get rid of it entirely. I’ve tried several times, but abandoned the fast because I can’t endure the hot, toxic neck and headaches, with rapid variations in my body temperature…chilled one moment, sweating miserably the next. – they continue day after day until it becomes impossible to believe I’m supposed to be getting better – and the nausea, and the vague funky taste in my mouth. The only thing that helps with that is Halls sugarfree citrus-flavoured cough drops. Somehow it cuts the nausea. But the headaches-on & on & on -you can’t lie down – it hurts even more, and after day three of four of it – struggling to drive the kids around, cook meals etc, I reach my breaking point. There has never been any proof that I would break through to a state of well-being. It’s difficult because on a fast the end of the day is grueling. I am ready for bed when the sun goes down – I’m exhausted and not having any dinner, but that is the time I’m alone with the kids, trying to get them to do homework, take their showers, break up their constant scuffles, and come up with an evening meal. And that is the precise moment I break fasts. Dinner. Always over dinner that I’ve cooked for the others. So depressing. But I will not give up. I am back in the fasting saddle, and hope to stay on the beast for 30 days or so. I want the pain in my feet, ankles, wrists, fingers, neck glands and sinuses gone. Tom – which juices would be best? And how can I successfully convince myself when I’ve been horribly ill and sick for day after day with no respite that it will get better?

        Hi Once
Thank you for sharing that with me, yeah honesty is the best policy no matter how bad my past was, even the Judge said that was in the past, he saw how far i have came.

You will find that your beer belly will disappear rapidly if you stick to your juice fast for the 30 days. I understand what you are saying about the first 4 days, they are the worst, but you have to focus 100% or you will fail. When i did the 30 days on water after day 14, every day felt like a week. It was sheer determination and help from above that got me through it.

Greetings! I am a thirty-seven year old male. I began the fast weighing two hundred and ninety-five pounds and am six foot four inches tall. I began water fasting on February 19. I have no experience with fasting. The reason for my fast is that I wish to lose weight. In 2006 I stopped eating meats, fried foods and sweets. At that time I weighed three hundred and fifty pounds. I lost eighty-five pounds over a two year span. Then about a year ago, I began cheating. I started back eating fried foods and sweets but no meat. One day I stepped on a scale and couldn’t believe how much weight I had regained. I went back to my previous diet, but I did not see any results. I suppose my metabolism is at a stand still. I do not have the support of my family, so I have not told them that my actual goal is forty days. I went to the gym to weight train Sunday (2-21) and while there I weighed myself and I was two hundred and eighty-eight pounds. I do not have a scale here at the house so I am only able to record weight every two or three days. I accompanied my mother to the doctor’s office on Monday and weighed myself there and the scale displayed two hundred and eighty-two. That is truly unbelievable and I am going to buy a scale of my own. I hadn’t planned to, but I really want an accurate reading. I discovered this site the day after I began my fast and I decided to record my stats and goals here. Any advice is welcome. Peace.

    Hi Azeron
    Welcome to fasting.ws.
Its not safe to go to the gym whilst water fasting, the best thing you can do is juice/veg fast whilst going to the gym, you will still loose the target weight very quickly. Water fasting is very heard on the body and never recommended whilst going to the gym.
You can however juice fast 5 days, then water fast on sat, sun whilst not going to the gym. Any other questions then feel free to ask
    Blessings Keith.

Greetings! This is day five of my water fast. I purchased my own scale today at Bed Bath and Beyond so from this point on I will have clear readings. I am experiencing…nothing. I am not craving anything. People ask me if I am hungry and that reminds me of food but it is no big deal. The thought of eating meat (beef in particular) still makes me cringe. When I stepped onto the my new scale it read two seventy-five. I did not believe this, so I had my mother step on it and she was three pounds heavier than yesterday at the doctor’s office. In any event, I will only use this one going forward.

I finally started my 40 day juice fast in which I’m on day 9. I recently didnt want to start because of the Super Bowl and I knew all the good food I would be bypassing. I kept putting it off because something was always coming up. Superbowl, birthdays, work potlucks, etc. I finally committed and started no matter what. I was real difficult the first 7 days but seems like smooth sailings now. Will power is all in the mind. 240lbs when I started. 229lbs today.

Greetings! Day seven of my water fast and I am two hundred and sixty-six pounds. I am not experiencing any hunger pains, however I have discovered…boredom. Apparently, much of my eating was simply to have something in my mouth. I don’t know if this is simply an oral fixation. I have taken to chewing on straws and toothpicks to pass the time.

I have had the same issue as Azeron – reflecting on how I ate, I ate out food before without even thinking about or maybe out of boredom? I will definately make sure I’m concious of this after my fast and keep myself busy doing other things. Oh, BTW I had a pot luck here at work today and although my wife made some killer Jambalaya for my potluck, I passed without any cravings. Making some progress here.

It is very hard to study without learning the Hebrew language, hence I may have to go to university in the future.
Bless your heart mate. I am about to start a fast tomorrow. I pray i will last 40 days on water. I know that this is like climbing mount Everest, but if i make it to the top how great would that be, finishing the 40 day water fast, not many people have seen it through to the end.

        Hi Keith,

I’m on day three of my latest fast attempt. I have lost an incredible TWO pounds!! Yesterday, I did not have time to haul out the juice machine, so I ended up on just water. This morning I have an unbelievable hangover. I must have gotten up in my sleep and gone to the clubs and thrown down some serious liquor! I have a pile of veggies in the fridge ready to be juiced, but while I know that it will help with my inflamed headache, it will also stir some serious hunger pains. Trade one for the other, I suppose. I’m just more afraid of hunger than hangover. On the other hand, I have to run around a lot today, and I should probably make the juice…should I or shouldn’t I? Such a serious dilemma!!!

OK I’m back at my desk…had to cancel all the running around today. I am developing a fullblown migraine. I had to take medication. I am shaking violently. I started making some juice and had to stop and come and sit down. I’m sipping some carrot/dandelion/celery/orange…this is bad, Keith, but if I don’t see it through, I’m wasting space on this site and a lot of effort. Thanks for the encouragement.

BTW, many (many many!!) years ago, I was standing at a bus stop in a blizzard with a newborn baby strapped to my chest, and trying to hang onto an enormous box containing her new crib…and next to me was a muslim woman…she looked at me, and said:

Yea we definately love some football out here in the US. My wife and I use it more of an excuse to have friends over and cook good food. My wife is the best cook ever. I’ve been noticing I get irritated easy during my fast. My wife has been getting on my nerves, my kids crying just bothers the hell out of me. But I know its because of the fast and how many issues will surface. Fasting has me reflecting on how my life is and what I want it to be. Weight loss seems to be taking a back burner to self reflection, soul searching, and getting closer to my Creator.

Hello Azeron, Water fasting is indeed very difficult. I hope that you are able to rest during your fast? 10 days on water is truly remarkable!

I usually start with water then switch to juice, because I have to work. I wish someday to do an extended water fast. But that will have to be when I retire, or get a long vacation!

Greetings! Day eleven of my water fast and I am 255 pounds. Today I am better than yesterday. I still have bouts of weakness, but nothing too serious. I do have a problem though…water tastes horrible to me. I’m only able to sip a little. This could be serious. I do not wish to become dehydrated. Ron, thanks for the words of encouragement. I will be off until the 8th. After that…I will be driving again. We shall see. I expect this to pass in another day.

  81. Once says:

Azeron – that’s amazing! Have you tried different types of water? Distilled? Mineral? They all taste different under different circumstances, and temperatures. If you’re not physically active, and not digesting, you probably only need the occasional sip of water anyway. As long as you feel good, your body is guiding you properly, I think.

I’ve had to stop my fast temporarily. The headaches are too much, and the migraine medication is making me really ill too, on the fast. I’m not really hungry, so I’m not having “meals”, but just a snack with the pills. I have to run around nonstop for the next few days, and when these migraines develop fully, I usually end up in hospital w/ uncontrollable vomiting and dehydration, so I’ll do whatever it takes to keep that from happening. This is the fifth day I’ve woken up with puffy eyes and a migraine. Hopefully this “series” will come to an end and I can return to the true fast.

    -onward through the rain!

  82. Azeron says:

Thanks Once. I am sorry that you had to interrupt your fast. I think avoiding the hospital is quite sensible. I cannot stand the idea of food these days. Hi Azeron, Try pinching the skin on the back of your hand to check hydration. If it stays in the pinched shape for more than a second or 2, you are dehydrated.

If you aren’t doing much activity, and the humidity is normal in your living area you should be fine. Sipping all day is fine. Too much water is worse, as you can lose vital electrolites. Ron

Unbelievable! You must feel as if you’re floating on air. If you don’t mind my asking nosy questions – do you notice the weight coming off from the entire body at once, or from one particular area after another, such as face or stomach?

And has the feeling of weakness gone? You seem to be out & about

  89. Azeron says:
    Azeron

Greetings! Day fourteen of my water fast and I am 251 pounds. No weight loss today and I feel full as though the water I have drank today has not been absorbed. My stomach has been bubbling all night as though someone decided to turn digestion back on. At this time, I am afraid to drink anymore than a sip of water as it is not being released. I hope this is a temporary condition.

Once, I honestly do not feel lighter. My clothes and my belt fit are the indicators that weight has apparently been lost all over. As expected, my mother clucks that I should eat something. I tell her that not only am I not hungry but even discussing food makes my stomach churn. The weakness went away Wednesday as expected. I have learned that doing ANYTHING quickly is ill advised. Especially sitting or standing up. The body does not like it and I have to focus to keep from falling.

  90. Once says:

    Hi Azeron

Did you take liquid vitamins? I have found that whenever I’ve fasted on water and then drink anything else that has more substance or taste- even diluted strained juices, my stomach starts rumbling right away, and I become hungry.

The body is going through experiences it’s never had before…like no food for two weeks after it has processed too much heavy food for years. It’s going to give YOU some sensations you’ve never had before. People have walked hundreds of miles without food. The human body has been well equipped over the millenia to handle fasting. It’s just that people don’t believe it having no information or guidance on the experience.

Keep going, you’re having such great success, and thanks for sharing the results – I for one am learning a lot. One thing I noticed also when I water fasted was that every time I had some stress – there was no spurt of adrenaline, and increased heart rate. I felt calm and kind of “disconnected” most of the time. Have you noticed this too?

  91. Azeron says:
    Azeron

Yes. I had three tablespoons of liquid amino acids Wednesday (which is quite horrid, by the way). If those amino acids caused me to drop out of ketosis, I am going to be very unhappy with myself. The other thing that I changed is I bought four gallons of Pure Life purified water. I simply cannot bear the distilled water any longer. I have not noticed any mood changes. However, I am a Libra and I normally do not have spikes in emotions.

  92. Once says:
    Once

I doubt that if it didn’t contain any sugars, but yes – amino acids taste as good as rusty metal along with the solvents used to clean it!

Maybe it’s best not to interrupt the fast with anything until you are finished.

Well I’m on day 18 of a 40 day juice fast … my first ever fast. The first week was easy and … then it got hard. The hardest part? Trying to drink 4 litres of juice a day so I don’t lose weight … and the hunger pangs still haven’t stopped … probably because I’m drinking so much juice! :( . Having to spend so much time preparing juices each day is also beginning to really annoy me. I don’t think I’ve spent so much time in the kitchen in years! LOL.

So far I have managed to stay strictly with juice, water and broth since I started, bar a couple of slip ups. Had a McDonalds thickshake on day 11 and a small packet of cornchips last night :( . Both of the slip ups have occurred on my hardest day of the week … leaving home at 7.30am for 4 hours of uni followed by 8 hours work at a police emergency call centre, which means I don’t get home until after 11pm. I’ve even managed to do 2 shifts in the church cafe doing food prep without any hiccups LOL.

I’ve found this last week really testing as I’m getting so tired and haven’t worked out how to fix that yet. The fact that I have a “stupid” schedule probably has something to do with that but that’s not going to change whilst I’m fasting. I work full time, study part-time, have at least 2 church meetings a week and volunteer in the church cafe once a fortnight. This year I’m also involved (in varying capacities) in 3 discipleship intensives, an 80 person Alpha course running terms 2-4, 3 conferences and a new church plant for the disadvantaged in my area. Aagh! Too much stuff! One thing this fast is bringing to light is just how crazy my schedule really is. Let’s just hope the Lord gives me an insane amount of strength over the next 22 days to get through the rest of my fast and my insane schedule LOL.

  94. Oikle says:

Just wondering, would egg whites added to my juices help with the fatigue that’s kicking in or should I be trying something else? Mentally clarity is brilliant. It’s just physical fatigue that’s causing a problem.

I have a pretty high metabolism as well which may be causing problems. When I ran a mowing business a few years ago I used to eat 8 full meals a day! Thankfully I have a sit down job nowadays.

If I use egg whites, how many should I have a day? Is there anything else that I should try?

    • Ron says:
      Ron

Hi Erica, Sounds like you just need more REST! I’m on day 17, and can relate to your busy schedule. I just turn in earlier at night, and try to relax more when I can. Also, a quiet moment or 2 for prayer helps. Believe it or not, a little exercise will wake you up and invigorate you too! I go to the gym 3 nights per week, for an hour and a half.

Egg whites may make you feel full, but will also make you tired if you don’t workout. I use Whey protein before I go to the gym. Proteins like Egg and Whey just sit in your stomach if you are not very active. They also slow your detox, and weight loss down, and make you bloated.

If you “cheat” during your fast, it may also make you tired because you are starting and stopping your digestive system.

My day is almost as crazy as yours, and I’m on my feet! I have been living on 1 or two liters of juice per day! The more juice you use the more your body wants. It stretches your tummy! The less you use the less you need.

I don’t want to sound critical here, but it sounds like you are looking for an excuse to end your fast. You may want to ask yourself, as well as God if this is a good time for you to be fasting. He will answer you! Just ask and believe!!

Fasting has it’s ups and downs but, it should be a somewhat peaceful experience. Not full of doubt and “insanity”.

I would slow down, pray, drink less juice and try to do a little exercise, or a walk in the fresh air! I will also pray that you will make it. God Bless, Ron

      Hi Azeron
If you drink water, it has to be absorbed. Weird aches and pain are common on a water fast. Do you have a juicer. The best way to break a water fast stop one if you get any negatives is juice.

    Hi Ron,

Valid points. Thank you. I hadn’t even considered that point of view and when I re-read my posts I do see your point. Reiterates for me how much of this fast really is a spiritual battle for me and not a health kick thing.

I don’t have a health problem and I don’t have any weight to lose so looking in a mirror or standing on the scales every few days is not going to give me any motivation to continue on with the fast. If anything it’s just going to freak me out because I don’t have any excess weight to lose.

I only came to know Christ 18 months ago. Prior to that I was a Level 3 Witch following the Wiccan tradition. There was a ritual circle in my backyard and an alter in my bedroom. Since then life has been a whirlwind journey.

About 6 months ago God called me to pastor the unsaved and go to bible college. I started college about 3 months ago. I guess I’m just really overwhelmed by the whole situation and sometimes it just seems way too hard or too unbelievable. God has done so much in my life in such a short amount of time that it’s almost like I’m dreaming and I’m wondering when I’m going to wake up and return to my former painful reality – a life of no family or significant support network, drugs, alcoholism, homelessness, promiscuity and the desperate yearning for acceptance and love.

This fast for me is the opportunity to seek God’s face and renounce the various areas where Satan is trying to keep a hold on my life. Just sometimes it’s really hard to stay passionate when I lose focus of the goal. Definately going to make more time to just be with God in the next few days to get me over this little bump in the road.

I began this water fast on February 19. With Yahweh’s blessings I have been able to lose forty-six pounds. I have a juicer, however I do not want to juice fast. If Yahweh provides me with the will, I want to stay the course. Things have slowed down considerably, however I am already lighter than I have been in twenty years. I consider this fast a success. Anything else is just gravy.

Now my relatives are trying to talk me out of water fasting. What kind of world do we live in? People routinely have surgeries to suck fat out of their bodies, wrap bands around their innards or staple their stomachs…and NO ONE bats an eye! Fasting works and has been practiced for centuries and they act as though I have two heads or something. Unbelievable!

  106. keith101 says:
    keith101

    Hi Azeron
Fasting does work and is safe if performed the right way [BUT]…Fasting is only a stepping stone into life change and a new healthy life style, exercise should be followed up when the fast is over.
    Blessings Keith.

        Welcome to fasting.ws.
Are you looking to juice/veg fast?
We are here to support you on your fasting journey. One thing that I must say to you is that fasting is only the beginning of your life change, you must follow up with exercise when you finish your fast. If this is your first fast then juice/veg fasting is ideal.
Let me know what you think.
        Blessings Keith.

    Hi,
I am trying to fast for 9 days. Im on my first day but I only had a healthy wrap for lunch yesterday and nothing today. But since its way past lunch time I guess that would count as a full day. I was 113 when I started and I just weighed myself and now I am 110. Im planning on water fasting since we dont have a juicer but my concern with that is since Im 16 will only drinking water cause growth problems? My parents know Im fasting, I am trying to slim down for gymnastics. Thanks!

    • Ron says:
      Ron

Hi Hai2u, A water fast is very hard. For your first fast you may want to try juice. Get an inexpensive juicer at a Thrift, or second hand store to start. You can upgrade at some point if you want to fast more often.

You are very thin at 110lbs. I think you are asking for trouble by water fasting for 9 days. If you are training, you will NOT be in a few days! No energy for anythiong but keeping your eyes open.

And cheating on a fast defeats the purpose, as your digestive system is stopping and starting. Your body won’t know what to do! It’s either in body cleansing mode, or food processing mode! Pick ONE.

Training and juicing are great together. Add a little protein (20grs.)with some powered Whey and/or Egg whites in a juice smoothie, and you’ll lose fat and gain muscle.

If you are not training don’t use the protein as you will not lose weight fast. Hope this helps. Ron

      • Hai2u says:

        Hi Ron,
110 may be VERY thin to some people but I am only 5ft and still growing, thats why I asked if water fasting would kind of put a halt to my growth? If thats the case I will definitely do juice fasting. And Im not sure what you mean about training and fasting. Is it ok to exercise while fasting or not??

      Hi Hai2u
Yes it is okay to train on a juice/veg fast, but not on a water fast, your body is still developing thus water fasting would not be appropriate for you.

To all, Yeah started the 26th. of Feb. on juice and tea. for 7 days then went dry/absolute fast for 2 days…now on water only.. day 3…the night of day 2 on water I must report was the worst night I believe in my life!!! I didn’t sleep at all…my back ached severly all night…my sineous’ have been draining for 3 days…and did so all that night…my stomach was in pain and upset…yeah and I kept saying to myself, I’m going to get up and make some juice…but never did…I just wrestled against it all night…it was nightmarish….BUT since that night I’ve slowly and steadily been doing better….last night was better…and todays been good…so I would just say to all…tough it out…detoxing is not pleasant…nothing fun about it…but you are in the top 1% of humanity who is really trying to improve themselves body, soul, and spirit….I minister in nursing homes and todays service was over the top !!!…the spiritual benefits of fasting to those born again are priceless…so again BE ENCOURAGED! JESUS LOVES YOU!….br. John

Keith, I did 2 days dry fasting, then 4 days on water only….after a week of juicing… because of my work schedual I can only water/dry fast 6 days at a time….but I try do it monthly, because I get a 7 day break each month….so my plan has been to juice the week before the water fast and then juice as long as possible after…which I am now doing…I’m back to work and juicing and drinking some tea….I lost 15 lbs. in 14 days…so far…pretty close to where I want to be weight wise…now since i’ve gone on juice I’m trying to get my strength back…but by mind has taken a quantium leap foreward..for example I do sudoku puzzles and over the past month I was getting stuck on the 4 and 5 star puzzles…well today I went back over all the puzzles I could not do and pretty wizzed right through them…I was amazed!!!….but one thing happened during my water fasting that was different…my siniuses started draining, and then it was Like a sinus infection some blood and greenish …sore throat …I’m thinking I’m supposed to get healthier by fasting…but this…”I think” the fasting was eating away at stuff in my sinus area and broke into a pocket of infection that my have been there for a long time ??? I don’t know ?….but now on juice it seems to be getting better…..I’m not a pastor…but yes I do preach and minister some….hopefully more and more in the future…and fasting plays a major roll in that…Keith, brother, be strong!, stay tough! …I salute you! …and keep those videos coming…love you brother, John

          Hi John
I understand what you are saying, you need to have a stress free environment to do a long water fast, but you do get Spiritual clarity after about 21 days, the great thing about water fasting is the inner peace you feel, also the compassion you feel for others.15 lbs in 14 days is well good, are you still jogging?
I read somewhere flushing out the sinuses with salt water is good but you would have to check that on google.
It takes a special person to minister and help others.
Day 8 today and i feel fine. I will post my new video today at some point.
          God bless Keith.

Thanks Keith, Yes actually my intention was to continue my water fast and work, but I still was feeling too weak and just plain bad!!! to go work…so I recovered with juicing…I really do want to go on a good long water fast for spiritual reasons… these monthly fasts should evenually lead to easier water fasting in the future and hopefully one of these months I will be able to breakthrough on into water fasting and work at the same time…all though my weight might be a factor because…after just 2 weeks I’m already at 134lbs. @5’8″…. (musclular build with fast metabolism)to go another say 2 weeks could put me @ 120 or less ???…I’ll just have to play that by ear I guess…at 134 thats what I weighed in the 9th. grade…but absolutely I do strongly desire to get to where I can do the longer water fasts…I want that spiritual clearity and cleansing…

I just started ruuning again today…haven’t ran in 15 days and put in 4+ miles at a slow easy pace with no issues…so that should all get better soon…more miles and faster times…

I will definatly check into the sinuse flushing….thanks.

Praise God… day 8..God bless you and keep you…back to you real soon, br John.

    Hi Azeron.

Congratulations! How are you feeling? Have you had any of the profound detoxes everyone talks about? I am really interested to learn (from your tiny picture you seem to have a fairly muscular build) if you feel you have lost muscle mass.

Are you back at work yet? How much longer will you fast? How is your mother holding up?

Since I can’t seem to sustain a fast right now – I’m eating a little (only vegetables/legume) twice a day and exercising. I hope to try a week’s water fast during spring break in a couple of weeks. We have no money at the moment, so there won’t be any exhausting family trips with restaurants involved, and unless my husband fills each day with errands, I should be able to rest.

If I have rebuilt some muscle by then – my weight loss should be quite a bit faster. It makes a big difference to me how fit I am when I undertake a fast. It is less difficult when I am fit. I have already lost 8 lbs in 2 weeks from exercising and cutting out bad stuff.

How fantastic it would be if I could get away from everybody for a while and meditate and fast and watch some sunrises by myself…but nooooooo…in reality I have to do it right here, in the midst of chaos and cold fog. Azeron, you seem to have had such an easy uncomplicated fast, perhaps a week is attainable for me.

Again – congratulations Azeron…you continue to amaze me!!!

        Hi Keith!

-No I have not…I will though! I have yet to conquer my mind and stay the course of a fast. I realize it’s purely emotional barriers that stand in my way, and high levels of stress, running around trying to keep a large family on track and an angry overworked husband.

There is just is no room for me to be off my “game”, as it were, and pamper myself for a long time. I must be able to spin on a dime w/out fainting, think clearly when I’m working, jump to my feet to respond to screams from fighting kids at home, multitask, cook/prepare food several times a day without putting any of it in my mouth no matter how many hours I’ve been miserably hungry (or nauseous)…and my favorite chore that I can absolutely NOT do while fasting…lift my industrial-sized yellow mop-bucket up over the toilet to empty it!

I will greatly benefit from seeing how you handle it, Keith. Good luck – and I hope to join you for part of the trip in a couple of weeks!

Greetings! Day twenty-one of my water fast and I am 244 pounds. Thanks for the encouragement Once! I do not feel that I have loss much muscle mass as I did not have a whole lot to begin with. I was working on it when I started the fast. I had been working out at the gym doing weight training and cardio on alternating days. There is no way that I could do cardio on this fast. I am driving again and it is not too tiring. I do not know about this detox thing. What is it? I feel okay but I have less patience. I have had it with my mother’s nagging about me eating something though. I still have nineteen days on this water fast and then I will likely move to a juice fast for forty days or as long as I can hold out and then raw foods. I still need to find an enema kit. I may have to break down an order one off of ebay.

UGHHHH! I’m pretty spooked…it’s silly really, but every year in spring & summer, I really have to examine and wash my vegetables from the farmers market – they’re full of “critturs”. A sign that there are no pesticides to be sure…and when there are grubs in the greens-we put them in a jar and watch them turn into moths…

But today it was SLUGS in my FENNEL. There’s slime and slugsh** all over it – two bunches. I threw it away…but now I can’t stand the thought of the juice at all. BLEAHH!! Even knowing that at the average neighborhood restaurant, I probably would ingest worse than that- (and I don’t eat at the average neighborhood restaurant for that reason) I can’t stand slugs in my food. Greetings! Day twenty-two of my water fast and I am 242 pounds. I remember reading about the salt water flush somewhere on this site. Does it substitute for an enema? If I recall correctly it was a table spoon and a half of sea salt and a liter of water?

You’re going under 200 Azeron. Keith is recommending 2 tbs of salt per liter. You can take it with him in the video. But can’t we take the salt in some form of tablet and wash it down with water? Is there no other way?

I’ve just told my friends at Spicy Bite not to give me any more food after today, no matter how much I wheedle, beg or offer to pay…so I’m all set to fast tomorrow…wish me luck in getting past day three – which usually breaks me.

Where can I find this video? Good luck on your fast, Once! Food is not my achilles…sugar is. I have been craving a cherry slush for the past two days. Anyway, that evil voice has been whispering in my ear. Telling me “just one slush…” Yahweh give me strength! Please… *Sigh* I’m off to the gym tomorrow now that I have learned that my slow metabolism allows me to exercise. Keith if I take this salt water flush, how long will I be incapacitated for?

    • Once says:
      Once

I know that evil voice, Azeron. I always crave food that I don’t normally eat-it’s like being pregnant, the strength of those cravings. A greasy slice of pizza. Three layer cake. Just the frosting will do. That kind of thing. Out of my mind with it sometimes!

Just think of the PAIN a sugary drink would cause after waterfasting. The stomach cramps, nausea, shock! The voice whispers no, no pain…I just want a TASTE…

Take it easy at the gym. Avoid getting your heart rate up too much. I’ve found I can do pushups, situps, some weights VERY SLOWWWLY. But nothing that will “rip” the muscles. Maintenance, rather than building. You must be feeling pretty good to want the gym!! Good luck!

I found it hard to walk during the week or so I managed to waterfast last year. I could handle walking on a track – but the hills around here… Tough.

Day one of my juice fast is awful. I’m already foggy and groggy and hungry and tired. Maybe that’s a good sign, since I usually start off feeling pretty good, then crash around day 3. The only thing worse than this would be the migraines…which usually start as I quit coffee. This time, I’m going to tough it through, bit by bit.

I’ve read that when you’re fasting, and particularly if you’re inexperienced – when the hunger and uncertainty hit – the whiny kid in some of us comes out and makes us weak and really tries to take over. I will try to stifle that brat this time around! Your humor and willingness to share the horrors, and Azerons’s total dignity and grace throughout are inspiring.

I am looking forward to seeing how you deal with the emotions – neg & pos, because I can’t stand it when everything stops and I face myself, and realize that I haven’t really seen myself since I was a little girl. Only snippets of my various roles seen through other people, and of course, there’s the laundry list of my behavior and its consequences.

I never get there because I have so many responsibilities to other people that never stop for a day, and I should be tending to my childrens’ needs instead being self-absorbed. If I wait until my slate is clear though – it’ll be 10 – 15 years before I can properly perform a spiritual fast & cleansing.

I’m glad you didn’t throw up too

      Hey Once
Sometimes you have to let go. The world can be a big bad place at times, Dignity and humor are just words, its what you do in life to help others that makes an impact on how someone percieves you.
You need to start doing things that make you happy. I have read all your posts for a long time now and i know that you need time out for yourself.

The thing is not many people know how to do the salt water flush, they are scared to do it. I think i must have been the first one to video it on youtube. [I HONESTLY FEEL GREAT NOW].

The first day is over, The fresh juice i made got me feeling very sick, and likeAzeron – I don’t want water, so I drank warm teas and must go to bed now, I took some ambien as my husband snores like a Harley. Sleep is not possible next to him, I don”t know how we feel about sleeping pills on a fast – they preserve a bit of sanity for my nights. If I have to give them up maybe I must taper off slowly. I feel awful…my kidneys feel heavy and inflamed. I’m turning in w/ol Harley, as we will be getting up an hour earlier tomorrow. If the fresh raw juices continue to make me sick-I’ll just drink the broth from cooked veggies for awhile. I’m still fasting

Greetings! Day twenty-three of my water fast and I am 240 pounds. Keith, I am not prepared to do the salt water flush just yet. I think I will try the enema first. You never answered my query about whether the salt water flush is a substitute for an enema. I really am not looking forward to ending the water fast. When I go to the juice fast, I wonder how long I can extend it?

    • keith101 says:
      keith101

      Hi Azeron
Yes it is a substitute for an enema, in my opinion far superior to an enema. The SWF loosens the waste that sticks to the intestines. When i did the SWF yesterday you would not believe the dark foul smelling waste that came away when i went to the loo. I feel that my inners have been through a washing machine, i feel great today. well worth the agony of taking it lol.
How long do you plan your fast for?

Hi John, I too suffer from sinus, and allergy problems. It seems that it also was the only ailment I wasn’t able to cure through fasting! Purhaps it is because of “airborne” irritants rather than toxins already in our bodies.

I use a ceramic “Nettie Pot” at least once a day w/ sea salt. And an OTC decongestant. And suffer! LOL!! God Bless, Ron

They are doing cloud seeding here in the Philippines due to 2 month drought. I have been sick and coughing and had a fever the last 4 days which is very very rare for me. Started with the first rain. They are telling us the rain water is not safe to drink during the seeding. Even more scary…. is chemtrails. Do a google youtube search.

        • Jennifleur says:

Yep, and I see them on a daily basis, just about, around here. But when I tell people about chemtrails, they look at me like I have two heads.

        • DL says:

Tom: China seeds their clouds to create rain also – do you ever receive info about health problems in China following a cloud seeding or first rain? Yes, I would be concerned of the damage to the cells and DNA of plants/crops. I would be more open to de-salinization plants like what Australia does to create water, instead of cloud seeding with chemicals.

          Hi Tom-

We’ve had so much rain this year in SF – I wish we could send you some. Are you fasting? I hope they never bring chemical seeding to California. Do we really need one more reason do get cancers & emphysema etc? And what is the point anyway if you can’t drink the water? What is it doing to plantlife and the environment?

Azeron – This is day 2 for me and I’m down 3 lbs from yesterday. I can’t have you passing me by – I still have 25 lbs to lose though. Apparently – you can live on juice for a long time. Tom suggests adding eggs or spirulina for protein.

Hi Tom, I hope the seeding is over and you feel better.

Tom – I have a question for you. I am ending day 2 of a juice fast, and the juice is quite harsh on my digestive system. I am extremely bloated and crampy right now.

I don’t want to end the fast, but what I crave is juices from cooked vegetables and fruits, not raw. I realize that this eliminates all the enzymes etc, but I don’t think I can handle raw juices right now, except citrus juices. I am particularly craving the juice of stewed pears.

I am asking your advice because I haven’t seen anyone else with this problem.

45, female, 5′7, started at 170: 164 today: 4 days breaking in, day 3 of juice fast.
-about 1.5 litres of water with lemon juice daily
-7 days with zero cigarettes, no cravings yet- I think the water and lemon juice has something to do with it? I can’t explain it any other way.
-went from a pot of coffee a day to zero as of today.
-”greens” with Vega (protein whole food drink mix) twice a day
-18 minutes on the treadmill every 2nd day – from zero before I started this
-woke up before 7am for the last 7 days – first time in over 4 years!
-I keep a daily journal to track progress, and track thoughts – which is helpful to re-train my brain while I’m emerging from my cocoon.
-I’ve tuned out of media(internet, tv, newspapers) for the last 7 days to slow down and create more inner calm. It sure does make a difference to me. Although I can’t avoid it at work, I choose to avoid it outside of work.
-Started reading every night before sleep – a book by the Dalai Lama how to practice a meaningful life. I am finding calmness in spirituality during this fast and I appreciate the inner strength I am experiencing to change how I accept, act, re-think and control my inner thoughts.

      Hi DL…

We’re almost neck & neck all around! I’m at 160 lbs, day 2. Congratulations on quitting smoking. That is the single most greatest acheivement!! I’ve read that physically – the brain makes more receptors for nicotine than any other chemical, including alcohol. I managed to finally quit several years ago when I got on a college track team – and the asthma would kick in. I wanted to run fast so badly, that smoking had to go! I still like to lean in for a whiff when someone lights up on a street corner…I know – weird!!

How did you taper down the coffee? I’m trying to get off it myself, and I’ve cut the strength and amt in half – but I’m so afraid of the headaches…I’ve been drinking it everyday since 18. This morning I’m essentially drinking brownish hot water to try and forestall the withdrawal. I guess there’s really no way to do that.

      • Jennifleur says:

Once, I think you just need to keep reducing the amount of coffee until you’re drinking maybe a cup a day, and then after that cut it out. You’ll still have to deal with the headaches for a few days, but it won’t be anywhere near as bad as going “cold turkey”. I had been drinking diet soda for years, at least one a day. But, in preparation for my fast, I cut it out over a week ago. There are times when I miss it, but honestly most of the time I’m happy without it.

I’ve been weaning myself off of things over the past week to prepare for my fast, which I will begin tomorrow. 40 day juice fast. I went out and bought a bunch of produce today. The hunger isn’t too bad right now. Yesterday and today my food has been pureed foods, such as Odwalla juice smoothies and butternut squash soup. My body has already started detox; I have developed a coating on my tongue today. I’m cold, but then again I’m always cold, s nothing new there (just one of the many reasons why I’m pretty sure my thyroid is slightly out of whack). I’m looking forward to starting, and thankfully, after work tomorrow, I have three days off from work, to allow myself time to rest through the roughest days. I also have watched very little TV over the last week, instead enjoying the silence.

Keith, my original goal was forty days water and forty days juice. I really am not interested in eating unless it is absolutely necessary. I did not know how this thing would go, but with no actual food cravings (just the sugary juice ones) I think I have convinced myself of the repulsiveness of all but raw foods (Yay!) Anyways, now I am becoming curious about possibly changing the deal (as Darth Vader famously stated). If I get to forty days water and decide that I want to try ten more days would that be a bad thing?

I felt my guts cramp and my face and neck flush and then I had to sit through a basketball game feeling as if I had stomach flu. My guts are still in spasm and bloating and I feel really sick. (It was the Beet/Fennel/Apple mixture)

    • DL says:

start slow with the juice, you can’t simply run a 10KM marathon, you have to train for it and build up to 10KM. Ease in with a single fruit – one that you like, and mix it 50/50 with water. adding a piece of peeled ginger about the size of half your thumb, will help with digestion – so will a piece of papaya. Each day try a different piece of fruit or vege. I am finding that doing alot of reading and researching about how each fruit and vegetable interacts with the cells in my body helps me to figure out which fruits and vege’s I want to use for my healing. As for the coffee – half each days’ total and you’ll be at zero before you know it.

    Hello :)
My name is Cassie and I’m completely new to fasting, but I’ve read and heard about all the benifits and would very much like to try it. Could anyone perhaps offer any practical advice concerning help with concentration and hunger? I still have to do college work and such, and I can imagine that a sustained period without food could be somewhat distracting. Thank you x

    • Ron says:
      Ron

Hi Brightside, First and foremost you have to educate yourself! You’ve come to the right place. Tom’s books would be a great start. And scanning through this wonderful site for the wealth of information!

You may want to start with some small goals. Like juicing for 1-3 days. It will get you in the mind, and invigorate your mind, body and spirit. Once you’ve reached a few small goals, you can plan for a longer fast. Usually 10-14 days on juice will clean you out and get you a decent detox. For ailments, 30-40 days is a great cure for many of them!

Forget any long water fasting until you’re a veteran. It will only discourage you. It takes a lot of will power, strength and enegry to complete anymore than a few days.

Also, if your schedule is busy and you need energy juice fasting is perfect! Good luck, and hang around and navigate the site for awhile. Ron

  144. Once says:
    Once

I think you’re right, DL. Root vegetables are pretty concentrated, and are usually (raw foodists aside) eaten in soups. The beet leaves gave off a rather poopy smell as they juiced. The whole thing was really unappetizing. I was trying to follow protocol, but I have to remember that everybody who comes to this site in less than perfect health may not be tolerant of the cleansing juice mixtures.

Most fruit is not in season yet here, and is really expensive imported, but just about all veggies are abundant. In another month though – strawberries will be here, and after that, blueberries & pineapple etc.

Keith…this isn’t going quite the way it’s supposed to. It’s been nearly 3 hours since I gagged my way back to bed after the SWF. While I was trying to figure out what the heck a cobra massage was – I fell asleep. Woke up half an hour ago feeling very ill – terrible headache, shaking, stomach cramping but nothing coming out, as it were. I grabbed a gallon of cold apple cider and chugged for my life!

I’ve only passed a small amt of red fluid (beet juice, I guess). My belly is extremely swollen, and I’m getting nervous because I feel so sick and the kids are arriving soon from school and I have to drive all over to get them to appts and a basketball tryout this evening. Is this a normal reaction?

I did what you did in the video…2 tblspoons sea salt to 1 liter of warm water, then you said you were going to go lie down, so I thought that was step 2. oops

I thought I had to clean out the build up of wastes…and you said you felt so much better the next day. That’s what decided it for me…the possibility of a “spring in my step.” I haven’t seen any “impacted wastes” at all yet. Just small amts of liquid, which seems to have changed from beet juice to apple juice. I have some stretchy track pants over my distended stomach, and I’m going to make some dandelion tea later on, because I have to go out now. I don’t think salt is good for me in any form!!

And I’ve now had ENOUGH of contemplating my guts for a lifetime!! Now for “something completely different!!!”
