Doing 4 days of Juice Fasting. Starting March 30, 2012
Reasons for Fasting:
It's my 50th birthday very soon and I'd like to feel and look great. More specifically I'd like to: 1. Improve my health - including getting rid of general inflammation that I have a tendency towards, improve neck injury that causes paresthesia in my R arm (it improves with good diet, worsens with alcohol), help get rid of remaining neuroma in L foot, get rid of occasional foliculitis, get rid of now occasional headaches. I also have a L frozen shoulder and I'm hoping this will help with any inflammation and healing. 2. Lose weight - I would like to get down to 62kg (in 3 days I've already lost 3.5kg) i.e. another 6kg, but 64 would be a great start. Much of my life I was 57-59kg. 3. Detox and rejuvenate - get rid of toxins that I know must be in my body from surgery, smoking etc..
Past Fasting Experience:
Many 3-5 day water fasts around 30 years ago. One 3-day juice fast approximately a month ago. Have been juicing for years and done different detoxes, some that have been very good e.g. have done the liver cleansing diet twice.
Relatively good, but could be better. Have been increasing vegetables of late and eating more vegetarian food, but if I don't eat protein regularly I crave sugar and that's where the trouble begins i.e. chocolate, cheese, bread etc.. I drink much alcohol - around 4 glasses per week on average, occasionally more for a special occasion - but it really doesn't agree with me even though I like it as a treat. I love gourmet food, dining out and cooking, but on the other hand I love being and eating healthily, so I would hate to have to completely lose that part of my life. Perhaps a treat meal once or twice a week?
Multivitamin, Astraforte, Silicia with Vit D (in winter - it was in the low end of normal), sometimes a multi-mineral and zinc, sometimes Co-enzyme Q10, liver support tablets (Dr Cabot).
Present Medication or Drug Usage:
Occasional panadol osteo, Movic, panadol with codeine.
State of Mind:
Determined but a bit concerned about whether I should continue given some of my reactions.
1. Is coconut water OK to drink on a juice fast? 2. I've read about the usual juice fasting symptoms but twice I've almost thrown up - once after having juice - and I've had terrible stomach cramps and just don't want to drink much juice anymore. I just had a plain apple juice, which made me feel better, but I know I need green juice too (plus I've bought a tray of wheat grass). I don't want to do a water fast, it's too much for me and I have to work, study etc.. Also, I woke up with pain in my R belly near where my appendix used to be (even though I didn't have appendicitis). This is an area that gets sore occasionally. Is all of this normal? 3. Is there a right time to give up fasting, or should I just push through? I initially wanted to make it to two weeks, but I'm not sure this is the best thing for me.
