  • Questions:
I hear that the first three days of a water fast are usually the hardest. I've been fine the past couple of days, but now I am starting to feel weak. I'm currently only drinking water with the occasional cup of unsweetened herbal tea (tangerine flavor). Contrary to some people's beliefs, the tea doesn't make me feel hungry. It's just a variation on water. Am reluctant to, but due to weakness (and I do have a newborn, but not breastfeeding unfortunately) am contemplating whether I should get some juice (don't have a juicer so can't blend fresh stuff). If I do get some juice, should I look for apple or feijoa juice? I understand I should stay clear of citrus because of the acid content and how it can upset your stomach, correct? I have fresh fruit (pears and apples) at home, but understand it is better to drink juice when you're on a fast, rather than interrupt the fast by eating solids.

Well I lasted until about 4:45pm on my third day. I was feeling very weak in the legs and arms and since I have to carry my newborn, figured I should stop. I got some juice (since I don’t have a juicer) from the supermarket. The most expensive stuff I could find without preservatives etc. I will try to come off the fast sensibly. I’ve had a glass of feijoa and apple juice and I feel heaps better already.

Hi SN, I’d suggest a series of short juice fasts (3-5 days), with breaks for raw fruits and veggies in-between. Calcium is a nutrient that is very important after a pregnancy. Leafy greens, especially collards are a great natural source.

Red Delicious are the most vitamin loaded apples you can get. You can water fast after you get your body balance back. Right now you need all the nutrients, vitamins, and live enzymes you can get to rebuild your body! Some light exercise is also a good thing after a pregnancy! Good Luck, and any child questions are up my and my wifes alley, we have 9! Ron

Thanks for the reply, Ron. Initially, I think I was trying to manipulate my body back into it’s natural balance, but I’ve come to realize that I need to be patient!

9 children? Wow! I’m having trouble getting my head around the possibility of a second. I did not know that about Red Delicious. Thanks for the info. I’ve been doing a lot of landscaping lately (which can be strenous) and a bit of walking (which I love, because we I’m situated near rainforest and the beach). I love leafy green veges (silver beet or swiss chard as it’s known in the US).

I did another two-day water fast, which for me, I think is helping because it means I’m drinking even more water than normal. I don’t feel weak in two days, so would like to persist with that a bit, but I am also adding more juices and fruits (because I get veges) to my diet). Once I get back to the States, I will buy a juicer and the whole family will be getting plenty!

Gee, I ‘d love to be living near a rainforest! But alas, it’s city dwelling for me…for now! Watch your water intake. Too much can flush electrolites out, which can be harmful. Take your time getting back to normal health. There’ll be plenty of time to fast on water.

Both I, and my wife came from big families; her’s Irish, and mine Italian. So, it was a natural thing for us. Most couples are satisfied with 2 or 3, which has become the norm. We always find couples that either one, or the other “wanted” more. But, both have to be on the same page concerning a big family, or it won’t work. And it may become a detriment!

We have our moments in our home…but the joy, and love are well worth the occasional crisis. And with 8 girls can be very often! LOL…my son and I just kind of sit back and watch!
