Aloe Vera will not cure cancer alone but in combination with other herbs, juices and therapies, aloe vera will boost cancer treatment effectiveness.

The major active substance with regards to aloe vera and cancer is the compound acemannan, which stimulates the body to produce new healthy cells and increase the immune system. Aloe vera is sold in liquid, gel, encapsulated or in tablet form, and may be part of a multi nutrient nutritional supplement or a stand-alone product.

The more that medical research finds out about aloe vera and cancer the more positive the results are. This alternative cancer treatment is affordable, easy to use, and requires no specific equipment or medical facility to administer the treatment.

Not intended for use as a complete treatment, aloe vera works to boost the immune system and allow other alternative cancer treatments or even traditional cancer treatments to work while stimulating new cell growth.

Aloe does this by enhancing the macrophages or white blood cells with the body. These are the cells that actually destroy cancer cells.

When the macrophages are working correctly they release anti-cancer substances such as interferons that further prevent the formation of new cancerous growths.

Dr. James Foulton, reporting in an article in the Journal of Dermatologic Surgery and Oncology, indicated that surgical wounds healed over seventy-two hours faster with aloe vera treatment than with standard pharmaceutical ointments.

This is important for cancer patients as the longer wounds are open the greater the risk for infection and further complications.

Aloe Vera along with a wide range of these anti-cancer nutrients should form a central part of your health-care regime. Eat generous amounts of fruit and vegetables on a daily basis in order to take in a wide spectrum of these crucial nutrients – especially the phytonutrients.

Support your anti-cancer approach to nutrition with a high quality, science –based multi nutrient supplement One that contains a very wide range of these anti-cancer nutrients, including the herbs which you can’t get through diet (be sure they’re standardized herbal extracts) – and don’t forget to check the potencies and dose amounts of the herbals and phytonutrients when comparing supplement brands.

The potencies are important and vary tremendously. High potencies mean better value for money and stronger health benefits!

Most consumers do not study potency levels when comparing supplements and disreputable manufacturers don’t reveal them!

By using a quality supplement along with aloe vera and cancer prevention diets, and other alternative treatments, it is possible to optimize the immune system which is your body’s first line of defense against cancer.

Dr. Faith Strickland, researching at the University of Texas Anderson Cancer Center has reported that aloe vera applied to sun exposed skin can actually reverse the effects of sunburn and minimize the chances of skin cancer cells developing in these areas.

This alternative cancer treatment has been used in domestic animals such as cats and dogs to cure skin tumors due to cancer with great success. While not indicating that aloe vera use will completely eliminate the possibility of cancer it is a positive natural cancer supplement that may be effective for treating melanoma.

Aloe Vera & Cancer

The compounds in the aloe vera plant are what make it an effective natural antiseptic and antioxidant. While the plant is mostly made up of water, there are over 75 known and identified substances in the gel and leaves of the aloe vera plant. The following compounds are all contained in aloe vera – cancer cells respond to these chemicals by decreasing in size and number in laboratory tests:

  • Salicylic acid – a natural painkiller
  • Lupeol – a natural painkiller
  • Phenols –increases blood flow and decreases fatty deposits in the circulatory system
  • Urea nitrogen – increases protein production
  • Sulphur – a powerful antiseptic for removing bacteria from the body
  • Plant sterols – provide anti-inflammatory compounds to reduce swelling and infections
  • Polypeptides – over 23 are found in aloe vera and they work to stimulate the immune system and produce new cells

These compounds work together to provide cancer treatment and prevention through the use of aloe vera. While it is not known at this time if aloe vera alone can treat cancer it is routinely used as part of a group of natural cancer supplements.

Aloe Vera Gel Health Benefits

Aloe vera boosts immune function and destroys cancer tumors. Scientific research shows strong immunomodulatory and antitumour properties for aloe vera polysaccharides. That means the gel helps boosts immune system function while destroying cancer tumors. One study published in International Immunopharmacology (1995) showed that aloe vera polysaccharides exhibited potent macrophage-activating activities including producing increased volumes of nitric oxide (which has anti-tumor potential).

Aloe Vera Halts Inflammation

Using aloe topically is well known to ease inflammation of joints, reducing arthritis pain. But aloe can also be used internally, reducing inflammation throughout the body from the inside out. People who drink aloe vera for two weeks typically begin to experience a significant reduction of inflammation symptoms.

Aloe Vera Enhances Skin Health

Aloe is one of the most widely-used ingredients in high-grade skin care products. Aloe soothes the skin, hydrates it, nourishes it and accelerates the regeneration of new skin tissue. (In fact, simply removing the gel from a living aloe vera leaf and placing the raw gel on your face is far superior to even the most expensive eye cream or skin care product on the market.) And while most people are only familiar with using aloe vera externally, aloe also enhances skin health when used internally. Drink more aloe and your skin glows!

Aloe Vera Stabilizes Blood Sugar in Diabetics

Diabetic patients who take aloe vera for 3 months experience a significant drop in fasting blood sugar levels. They also exhibit lower cholesterol levels and slight improvements in total cholesterol. Numerous clinical studies have been published that demonstrate aloe vera’s antidiabetic properties.

Diabetics are also likely to benefit strongly from aloe vera’s blood enhancements. Since aloe reverses “sludge blood” and boosts circulation to extremities, diabetics suffering from peripheral neuropathy (hands and feet going numb) are likely to benefit strongly from aloe vera supplements.

Aloe Vera Lowers Cholesterol & Triglycerides

When used internally, aloe vera gel improves the quality of the blood and helps rebalance the blood chemistry in a way that lowers cholesterol and total triglycerides (in people with elevated levels). When you consider that blueberries are also powerful cholesterol-lowering medicines, you realize why the Good Cause Wellness Aloe Vera + Blueberry product is such a smart idea: Both ingredients lower high cholesterol. Plus, this is far safer than using statin drugs, which have extremely harmful negative side effects while depleting the body of nutrients such as CoQ10.

Aloe Vera Relieves Joint & Muscle Pain

It works when used both internally and externally. Essentially, aloe reduces overall inflammation. You need to continue eating a pro-inflammatory diet (red meat, milk, sugar, white flour, fried foods etc.) then you’ll never get rid of all your inflammation with aloe alone, but aloe can help ease your pain while you transition to a healthier lifestyle that eliminates the inflammation for good.

Aloe Vera Amplifies the Antioxidant Effects of Vitamins

Aloe vera makes vitamin C, vitamin E and other antioxidants work better. Aloe vera actually potentiates antioxidants, probably due to its effect on enhancing blood quality and allowing the blood to more effectively transport oxygen and nutrients to the body’s cells.

Aloe vera actually contains advanced biochemical technology that the drug companies can only help to understand someday. This technology was built by nature, and it’s 100% compatible with the human body.

Aloe vera cures ulcers, IBS, Crohn’s disease and Celiac disease Polysaccharides in the aloe vera plant have curative effects on numerous digestive disorders.

Taking aloe certainly isn’t a magic bullet cure, of course. It won’t reverse your disease after drinking one glass of aloe vera gel. It needs to be used regularly. Most people report positive results in 3 – 30 days, depending on the condition.

Aloe Vera Natural Immune Booster

There’s research being done now on the anti-cancer effects of acemannan, a phytonutrient found in aloe vera. In one study, dogs and cats undergoing radiation for cancer were given acemannan as an adjunctive therapy. Not only did the tumors shrink more in the acemannan-treated group, but post-treatment survival was significantly extended.

Acemannan from aloe vera accelerates the destruction of cancer tumors, improves survival time and results in far better recovery from toxic cancer treatments. One study shown here demonstrates that acemannan increases cells’ production of nitric oxide (NO), an anti-cancer chemical strongly associated with the shrinking of cancer tumors. Essentially, the more nitric oxide you produce (to a point), the less cancer you have, and acemannan increases the production of nitric oxide. Although this particular research was focused on chickens, the same effect has also been observed in humans.

Aloe vera is antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal. Aloe has to be antibacterial simply to survive in the wild. Otherwise, the moist, nutrient-rich gel would be a perfect breeding ground for bacteria.

As the aloe vera dries, it actually contracts, pulling the wound shut and keeping it completely free of dangerous bacteria. Plus, it provides nourishment to the wound tissue itself. It’s also perfect for use on animals, because if they lick the wound, they won’t be licking the toxic chemicals found in most first aid products.

Aloe Vera Ends Acid Reflux Disease

Acid reflux isn’t really a disease. The drug companies just call it that to convince everyone that they need to take medications to ease the symptoms. But in reality, all you probably need is aloe vera. Drink aloe vera gel on a regular basis, and your heartburn symptoms will usually vanish within a few days. Of course, it would also help if you’d stop eating fried foods and processed foods.

Aloe vera heals radiation burns from radiation cancer treatments. For those cancer treatment victims who have been maimed by radiotherapy treatments (which don’t cure cancer, the treatments are largely a medical hoax), applying aloe vera topically to the radiation area will rapidly accelerate the healing response. Consuming aloe vera internally will also help heal radiation burns.

Aloe Vera Cures Gum Disease

Just sprinkle some of this aloe vera powder on your toothbrush before brushing. The aloe vera powder actually heals gums and eliminates gum disease.

Merely drinking the aloe also helps heal your gums: Just swish the liquid around your mouth a few times before each swallow. You’ll be bathing your gums in healing aloe gel, and they’ll begin to heal rapidly. Even severe cases of gum disease can be completely cured in a matter of weeks using aloe vera gel. Most people with gum disease are also chronically deficient in vitamin D, so if you boost your vitamin D intake while treating your gums with aloe vera gel, your results will be greatly accelerated.

Aloe Vera Heals Burns, Cuts & Scrapes

When used externally, aloe is the best wound dressing ever discovered, far exceeding the capability of even the most advanced emergency room wound dressings. It works by simultaneously sealing the wound while attracting an increased flow of blood to the wound, acclerating wound healing. Aloe has been known to heal third-degree burn victims with no scarring and to restore burned skin that would have normally died.

Aloe vera gel is extremely effective in wound care. Large chunks of aloe vera gel can literally be packed inside wounds such as gunshot wounds or tissue tears. Placed directly on or in the wound, it kills bacteria, prevents infection and actually nourishes the traumatized tissues while sealing the wound against outside infection. Nothing beats aloe for emergency trauma medicine.

Aloe vera saves animals and human from severe hemorrhagic shock (blood loss)
Aloe vera gel turns sludgy, oxygen-depleted blood into smooth-flowing oxygen-rich blood. The original research was done on rats by unethical researchers who kill rats for a living. They bled out the rats, removing up to 3.15mL of blood per 100g of rat body weight (which is a huge amount of blood when you consider the small size of the rats), then tried to resuscitate them by injecting a polymer made from aloe vera. The study showed phenomenal improvements in the resuscitation, blood pressure and survival in the group receiving the aloe vera polymer.

By using aloe vera in humans, the improvement in the “sludge blood” found in most U.S. adults would be nothing less than astonishing. Drug companies, of course, want to isolate some chemical found in aloe vera and turn it into a patentable drug. But that’s entirely unnecessary. Just eat aloe vera gel and you get the benefits. Besides, the benefits are not due to one isolated chemical, they’re made possible by a symphony of supporting phytonutrients.

Reducing Stroke & Heart Attacks

Enhancing the quality of the blood will have a significant impact on reducing heart attacks and strokes. Eating aloe vera is like adding an all-natural non-stick additive to your blood flow. It stops blood cells from clumping together, which is part of what causes a stroke.

The fact that aloe vera can reverse “sludge blood” while allowing the blood to carry more oxygen means that it will quite obviously reduce heart attacks and strokes. In fact, it will also reduce high blood pressure because part of the reason blood pressure is so high in some people is because their blood has turned into a thick, viscious liquid that flows like molasses. Basic physics tells you that a thicker liquid will take more pressure to pump through any system. By reducing the viscosity and making the bood flow in a more frictionless manner, blood pressure is automatically lowered.

There are many other benefits that come from eating aloe vera gel, too, such as increased blood flow to the brain, which might mean a reduction in Alzheimer’s progression, improved learning, enhanced memory and better cognitive function. These benefits have yet to be proven in studies, but just because the studies haven’t been done doesn’t mean the aloe isn’t already providing these benefits to those who take it. Since there’s no money to be made from studing aloe vera, the science will lag behind reality by several decades.

Aloe Vera Natural Food Preservative

A thin layer of aloe vera gel can be used as a natural food preservative, eliminating the need for chemical preservatives. Research conducted by Daniel Valero, Ph.D., of the University of Miguel Hernández in Alicante, Spain, showed that a thin layer of aloe vera gel was highly effective in preserving foods. For the experiment, they dipped table grapes into an aloe vera gel, then stored them at refrigerator temperatures. Untreated table graped went bad in 7 days, but the grapes dipped in aloe vera stayed fresh and tast for as astonishing 35 days.

Because of this remarkable ability, aloe vera gel could revolutionize food safety around the world. Dipping fruits and vegetables in aloe vera gel would eliminate e.coli, preserve freshness, and greatly extend shelf life.

You can simply mix some powder with purified water to make your own gel, then dip fruits and vegetables in the gel yourself. Apples, cucumbers, zucchini, tomatoes, peaches, potatoes, grapes and many other food items can be preserved in this way. And when you’re done dipping produce in the gel, you can either drink the gel in a smoothie or put it on your skin as a skin rejuvenation treatment. None of the aloe goes to waste, and your fruits and vegetables will last far longer. (This is especially useful for organic produce, which tends to ripen more quickly.)

Aloe Vera Extends Lifespan

A study on rats showed aloe vera extends lifespan by 10 percent. A summary of results are as follows: Aloe ingestion, both crude and processed, was shown to extend (10%) average life span and slow the mortality rate doubling time. Also, several beneficial effects from aloe ingestion on age-related disease were found: Group 2 and 3 showed a lower incidence of atrial thrombosis than Group 1.

Furthermore, Group 2 showed a significantly lower incidence of fatal chronic nephropathy and occurrence of multiple causes of death compared to the control group. All groups ingesting aloe showed a slightly lower incidence of fatal leukemia. Moreover, no adverse, toxic effects were found with the ingestion of aloe vera.

Nephropathy” simply means kidney disorders. Aloe vera reduces kidney disease and other causes of death. It also demonstrated a lower rate of leukemia, which is an interesting finding given that so many children today still eat hot dogs laced with cancer-causing sodium nitrite (a chemical added by junk food companies to turn the meat red), and sodium nitrite causes leukemia and brain tumors, among other cancers.

What’s in aloe vera gel:

  • Water
  • 20 minerals
  • 12 vitamins
  • 18 amino acids
  • 200 active plant compounds (phytonutrients), including:

  • Enzymes
  • Triterpenes (a phytonutrient that lowers blood sugar)
  • Glyconutrients & glycoproteins
  • Polysaccharides, including:
  • Acemannan, mannose-6-phosphate polymannans
  • Phenolic glycosides, including: Dihydrocoumarins

Mike Adams’ Miracle Aloe Very Smoothie Recipe

  • 1 large fresh, raw aloe vera leaf gel (or low-temperature dried aloe vera gel powder if you don’t have fresh plants)
  • 1 scoop Jay Robb’s egg white protein powder (unsweetened)
  • 2 cups fresh berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries or a combination)
  • 1 quart Blue Diamond unsweetened almond milk (or soy milk or whatever milk you drink)
  • 1/2 teaspoon stevia or 2 tablespoond agave nectar (or your favorite sweetener)
  • (Optional) 1 cup cooked quinoa (adds protein and fiber to the drink)
  • 1-2 cups of water

  • Add all the ingredients except the water and aloe vera gel. Blend until it’s a smooth liquid (using a Vita-Mix blender is recommended).
  • Add aloe vera and additional water as your last step, then blend for no more than 10 seconds. Resulting thickness should be like a milkshake.

Note: Fresh aloe vera has virtually no taste. Other forms of aloe will have a slightly bitter taste, so you may need to add more sweetener if using dried aloe vera. Adam recommend using fresh, raw aloe vera right out of your yard if possible. Nothing is superior to the living, raw plant, but the low-temperature dried aloe vera mentioned here is the next best thing.

If you’ve never eaten aloe before, be sure to take only a small amount at first.

In any case, after taking large amounts of aloe vera, you may feel some difference in your digestion for a few days. If you’ve been constipated, aloe will likely reduce its severity, and you may notice a far easier time passing stools.

If you’ve had stomach pains or intestinal pains, you’ll likely notice them easing or vanishing completely. Aloe vera is the best internal medicine for the treatment of colon polyps. It soothes the intestinal tract and helps heal pre-cancerous lesions or growths. In fact, a raw juice diet using vegetable and fruit juices combined with aloe vera gel is practically a miracle cure for early-stage colon cancer. Think of it as a raw juice fast + aloe vera. It’s a very powerful cleansing recipe.

Chemical compounds such as lectins, acemannan, polysaccharides and anthraquinones along with vitamin C, amino acids, germanium etc. make the aloe vera very useful in the maintaining and toning of dry skin, blood vessels, liver, stomach, kidney and to treat various diseases like diverticulitis, ulcers, asthma and heartburn. It also helps in healing cuts and wounds. Many researchers claim that it has the power to help cure HIV/AIDS. It is mostly used in beauty products such as moisturizers, cleansers, and soaps. No wonder it is proving useful in the healing of cancer too.

Corrosion causes the damage to the genes. These adducts multiply themselves in a cell (mitosis) and possess the power to damage that cell permanently. They are not initially recognized by the immune system. Aloe vera keep on dividing in each cell and the possibility of cancer increases. At the time of mitosis, the cells make the same adducts. This is how cancer cells are produced.

Though all the cells, except the nerve cells from the central nervous system, need to get replaced, it becomes impossible for the healthy neighboring cells to grow. Once the cancer turns malignant, it conquers the whole body of the host. This ability makes cancer the most life threatening disease of them all. But the early detection of the disease and the proper nourishment of the patient can help him survive happily. This nourishment is done by growing the cells in a controlled body environment. This is termed as ’tissue culture’. Cancer treatment therapy, called as ‘Chemotherapy’, entails a close examination of the cells. If found infected, they are killed immediately.

Aloe vera works as a soothing agent in the patients undergoing the therapy. The unique mixture of aloe vera in aloeride works as the best cancer suppressor. It prevents cancer by suppressing the tumor causing cells. The aloeride is made up of aloe barbarensis miller, that has the same medical characteristics as the Aloe vera plant.

Aloe vera is not always used in its direct form, but also in the various forms available in the market, such as – aloe vera gel, capsules, creams and drinks. All these different products are chemically tested and they certainly prove beneficial for the cancer treatment. From all these products, aloe vera gels and creams are used on a larger basis.

Aloe Vera Juice

A regular intake of aloe vera juice helps to prevent the production of cancer cells in the body. For the patients already suffering from cancer, it soothes intoxication caused by the radiotherapy. Aloe vera juice has proved helpful in healing many types of cancers, including breast cancer, ovarian cancer and blood cancer (leukemia). Basically, aloe vera proves useful in healing the side effects caused by chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Aloe Vera Creams

These creams are odorless and are best used to reduce the itchiness of the skin in psoriasis (a type of skin cancer). It also protects the skin from the damage caused by the exposure of the skin to the ultraviolet rays, that are very harmful for the cancer patients.

Aloe vera, though clinically tested, has a drawback that not all people can withstand its chemicals.

Black Currant Cancer Cure Thu, 11 Nov 2010 05:13:59 +0000 Joyce Ann Mallare Black currant can assist in a holistic cancer treatment. Black currant will not cure cancer alone but in combination with other herbs, juices and therapies, black currant will boost cancer treatment effectiveness. Black currant other names include currant, johannisbeere, ribes, groseille, French cassis and bes.

Black currant belongs to the family of Ribes berry native to central and northern Europe and northern Asia and is a perennial. Black currant tastes sweet that’s why it’s used to make jams and juices. Black currant has medical usages and contain compounds that can cure cancer.

Black Currant Historical Medical Usage
The list of therapeutic properties of the black currant fruits was presented in the 18th century by the abbot Bailley de Montaran, from the monastery of Dijon. He underlined their wonderful tonic qualities, considering the currant as an elixir of youth. Black currant was used for centuries in Chinese folk medicine as a diuretic, diaphoretic, and febrifuge, and as an ingredient in nutraceuticals, wines, juices, and jams in China and Europe. In external use, the mixtures from black currant fruits are used for treating abcess, dermatosis, eczemas, insect stings or hits.

Black Currant was used in “Syrupus Ribis Fructus BPC” (100 parts red currants, 10 parts red cherries, 5 parts black currants) as a flavoring and coloring agent. Black currant was use in colds, both as laxative and cooling.

Black Currant Properties

Containing tannin, vitamin C, potassium salts, and essential oil, the black currant is a good diuretic, anti-sclerotic, pectoral, stomachic, anti-diaretic, anti-colitic, anti-stringent, and hypotensive.

Black Currant Medical Benefits

Compounds in black currants may help protect against Alzheimer’s disease, according to a study in the current issue of Chemistry & Industry magazine. Compounds in black currants may help protect against Alzheimer’s disease, according to a study in the current issue of Chemistry & Industry magazine. The black currant diet is useful against rheumatism, arthritis and gout. The plant stimulates digestion, stimulates the functioning of the liver, pancreas, spleen and kidneys.

Black currants are also useful against tiredness and overwork. The diet with these fruits is also recommended to plethoric and lymphatic people and to women who suffer from circulation disorders due to menopause. Black currant is recommended as a systemic anti-inflammatory agent with actions similar to those of natural cortisone, in cutaneous, acute and chronic allergies, bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis, and diabetic retinopathy.

Black Currant For Cancer

Black currants may also have cancer-fighting properties. “The Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry” featured a study on December 2004 that discussed the effects of several species of berries on breast and colon cancer cells. Black currants were included in the study, and researchers found that the vitamin C content, anthocyanins, flavanoids and other substances in the berries may be effective in inhibiting the growth of cancer cells. Blackcurrant possesses strong antioxidant action due to presence of anthocyanin. The growth of various cancer cell lines, including prostate cancer also was strongly inhibited with blackcurrant or French cassis berries due to its antioxidant action.

The berries of black currant are rich in polyphenolic compounds and especially in anthocyanins, demonstrating antioxidant activity. Antioxidant activities of plant products contribute multiple health benefits. Researchers evaluated 13 black currant juices and found anthocyanin content or vitamin C attributed 70% of the antioxidant capacity of the juices. And, the antioxidant activity of the anthocyanin was most intense at neutral pHs.

Black Currant Juice

Natural currant juice obtained from 400 fruits and 4 big leaves. It can be consumed simply or diluted in 200-500ml water, 3-4 times a day. It has beneficial effects against digestive inflammations and febrile states. Throat washes can be made with it more times a day for treating inflamed tonsils and throat aches.

Black Currant Dosage

Black currant is likely safe when used at a maximum dose of 1,000 milligrams (500-1,000 milligrams are often used per day). Black currant juice is also commercially available and has been taken in doses up to 1.5 liters per day, when mixed with apple juice.

Black Currant Precautions

Black currant seems to be safe when used as food, or when black currant berry or seed oil is used appropriately as medicine. Not enough is known about the use of black currant during pregnancy and breast-feeding. There are no known side effects or contradictions from using black currant.

Vitamin C Cancer Sat, 06 Nov 2010 09:01:51 +0000 Jenks Biang Other names: Acido Ascorbico, Antiscorbutic Vitamin, Ascorbate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Calcium Ascorbate, Cevitamic Acid, Iso-Ascorbic Acid, L-Ascorbic Acid, Sodium Ascorbate

Vitamin C can assist in a holistic cancer treatment. Vitamin C will not cure cancer alone but in combination with other herbs, juices and therapies, Vitamin C will boost cancer treatment effectiveness.

Major food sources of vitamin C include fruits like oranges, strawberries, lemon, grapefruit and lime, among many others, and vegetables like pepper, broccoli, potato and Brussels sprout.

New Zealand researchers have established that vitamin C can help to block the growth of cancer cells – an important experimental finding they expect could be quickly adopted into cancer treatment.

The role of vitamin C in cancer treatment has been controversial for decades, with contradictory findings from various studies. In an international review of 20 human trials of vitamin C and other “anti-oxidant” supplements, the influential Cochrane Collaboration found no convincing evidence that they could prevent gastro-intestinal cancers – and said they “even seem to increase mortality”.

On the otherhand, a team from Otago University at Christchurch, in a paper published in leading international journal Cancer Research, have shown that vitamin C has a role in controlling tumour growth.

They say their study of tumorous and normal tissue samples from women with cancer of the uterine lining provides the first direct evidence of a link between vitamin C and a protein called HIF-1.

HIF (hypoxia inducible factor)-1 is considered a key protein in tumour survival. High activity of it promotes tumour growth and resistance to chemotherapy and radiotherapy and is linked with a poor prognosis for patients.

The Christchurch study, led by Associate Professor Margreet Vissers, of the university’s Free Radical Research Group, found that high-grade tumours had around 40 per cent less vitamin C than matched, adjacent, normal tissue.

The researchers say their study suggests that restoring the vitamin C levels in tumours would limit factors that promote tumour growth, and recommend animal trials to test the hypothesis.

Professor Vissers said the study suggested it would be beneficial for people with cancer cells to have more vitamin C. It could help restrict the rate of tumour growth, increase responsiveness to chemotherapy and might prevent formation of solid tumours.

Additionally, a study done by the Linus Pauling Institute of Oregon State University cited that an increased intake of vitamin C has been found to reduce the risk of chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease and cancer. Several others reinforce this, such as the World Cancer Research Fund’s study, which reviewed how an increased consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables rich in nutrients like vitamin C is associated with a reduced risk in certain types of cancer.

Vitamin C Medical History Usage

Vitamin C was used for preventing and treating scurvy. Scurvy is now relatively rare, but it was once common among sailors, pirates, and others who spent long periods of time onboard ships. When the voyages lasted longer than the supply of fruits and vegetables, the sailors began to suffer from vitamin C deficiency, which led to scurvy.

Nearly 30 years after Nobel laureate Linus Pauling famously and controversially suggested that vitamin C supplements can prevent cancer, a team of Johns Hopkins scientists have shown that in mice at least, vitamin C – and potentially other antioxidants – can indeed inhibit the growth of some tumors ¯ just not in the manner suggested by years of investigation.

Vitamin C Health Benefits

Vitamin C plays an important role in your body by synthesizing collagen, which is an important structural component of your blood vessels, tendons, ligaments and bone. Vitamin C plays a key role in brain function, assists in turning fats into energy and has even been known to affect mood.

Apart from these, vitamin C has also been found to be a highly effective antioxidant. Antioxidants protect your body tissues from the damage caused by free radicals. If left unchecked, free radical damage may hasten the aging process or lead to the development of cardiovascular diseases and certain types of cancers. Research has shown that vitamin C, even in small amounts, can protect you from such damage.

Most experts recommend getting vitamin C from a diet high in fruits and vegetables rather than taking supplements. Fresh-squeezed orange juice or fresh-frozen concentrate is a better pick than ready-to-drink orange juice. The fresh juice contains more active vitamin C. Drink fresh-frozen orange juice within one week after reconstituting it for the most benefit. If you prefer ready-to-drink orange juice, buy it 3 to 4 weeks before the expiration date, and drink it within one week of opening.

These days, vitamin C is used most often for preventing and treating the common cold. Some people use it for other infections including gum disease, acne and other skin infections, bronchitis, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) disease, stomach ulcers caused by bacteria called Helicobacter pylori, tuberculosis, dysentery (an infection of the lower intestine), and skin infections that produce boils (furunculosis). It is also used for infections of the bladder and prostate.

Some people use vitamin C for depression, thinking problems, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, physical and mental stress, fatigue, and attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Other uses include increasing the absorption of iron from foods and correcting a protein imbalance in certain newborns (tyrosinemia).

There is some thought that vitamin C might help the heart and blood vessels. It is used for hardening of the arteries, preventing clots in veins and arteries, heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.

Vitamin C is also used for glaucoma, preventing cataracts, preventing gallbladder disease, dental cavities (caries), constipation, Lyme disease, boosting the immune system, heat stroke, hay fever, asthma, bronchitis, cystic fibrosis, infertility, diabetes, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), autism, collagen disorders, arthritis and bursitis, back pain and disc swelling, cancer, and osteoporosis.

Additional uses include improving physical endurance and slowing aging, as well as counteracting the side effects of cortisone and related drugs, and aiding drug withdrawal in addiction.

Sometimes, people put vitamin C on their skin to protect it against the sun, pollutants, and other environmental hazards. Vitamin C is also applied to the skin to help with damage from radiation therapy.

Vitamin C Precautions & Warnings

Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Vitamin C is LIKELY SAFE for pregnant or breast-feeding women when taken in the recommended amount of 120 mg per day. Taking too much vitamin C during pregnancy can cause problems for the newborn baby.

Angioplasty, a heart procedure: Avoid taking supplements containing vitamin C or other antioxidant vitamins (beta-carotene, vitamin E) immediately before and following angioplasty without the supervision of a health care professional. These vitamins seem to interfere with proper healing.

Diabetes: Vitamin C might raise blood sugar. In older women with diabetes, vitamin C in amounts greater than 300 mg per day increases the risk of death from heart disease. Do not take vitamin C in doses greater than those found in basic multivitamins.

Blood-iron disorders, including conditions called “thalassemia” and “hemochromatosis”: Vitamin C can increase iron absorption, which might make these conditions worse. Avoid large amounts of vitamin C.

Kidney stones, or a history of kidney stones: Large amounts of vitamin C can increase the chance of getting kidney stones. Do not take vitamin C in amounts greater than those found in basic multivitamins.

A metabolic deficiency called “glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency” (G6PDD): Large amounts of vitamin C can cause red blood cells to break in people with this condition. Avoid excessive amounts of vitamin C.

Sickle cell disease: Vitamin C might make this condition worse. Avoid using large amounts of vitamin C.

Vitamin C is LIKELY SAFE for most people when taken by mouth in recommended doses or when applied to the skin. In some people, vitamin C might cause nausea, vomiting, heartburn, stomach cramps, headache, and other side effects. The chance of getting these side effects increases the more vitamin C you take. Amounts higher than 2000 mg per day are POSSIBLY UNSAFE and may cause a lot of side effects, including kidney stones and severe diarrhea. In people who have had a kidney stone, amounts greater than 1000 mg per day greatly increase the risk of kidney stone recurrence.

Strawberries Cancer Cure Sat, 30 Oct 2010 08:38:25 +0000 Jenks Biang Strawberries can assist in a holistic cancer treatment. Strawberries will not cure cancer alone but in combination with other herbs, juices and therapies, strawberries will boost cancer treatment effectiveness.

Strawberries are very high in quercetin–one of the flavonoids which is important in heart health.Quercetin has also been studied for its potential cancer-fighting abilities. One cup of strawberries has 46 calories, three grams of fiber and 85 milligrams of vitamin C.

Strawberry extracts halted cancer cell growth in lab trials of UCLA. Researchers credit the anthocyanins in the strawberry samples for suppressing proliferation of colon, prostate, and oral cancer cell cultures. Anthocyanins are the antioxidant compounds which lend vivid vermillion and violet hues to berries, grapes and even red cabbage. Anthocyanins are believed responsible for the heart and brain-health benefits of red wine and blueberries respectively.

Strawberries may be the most effective of the five most commonly consumed berries at inducing cancer cell death, according to a recent study conducted at the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition. The center recently tested extracts of six berries — strawberries, raspberries, black raspberries, blueberries, blackberries and cranberries to determine their ability to induce apoptosis, a process that enhances the death of cancer cells.

In one phase of the study, all of the berry extracts exhibited anti-proliferative effects and did so in a dose-dependent manner. The strongest strawberry effects were seen against two types of oral cancer cells and one type of colon cancer cells. A second phase of the experiment measured their ability to induce programmed cell death (apoptosis) against a cyclooxygenase (COX)-II expressing enzyme colon cancer cell. The results showed that the berries were potent inducers of apoptosis in the human colon cancer cells.

Navindra Seeram, Ph.D., presented the findings of this study at the International Berry Health Benefits Symposium, June 13-14, 2005. Strawberries account for 75% of the fresh berry volume sold at retail, followed by blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and cranberries, in descending order. Strawberries and other berries contain high levels of the phytochemicals that are believed to be responsible for the protective effects of diets high in fruits and vegetables against chronic illnesses such as cancer, inflammation, heart disease and neurodegenerative diseases.

The investigators concluded that more in vivo studies are warranted to investigate the impact of berry phytochemicals on human health.

In addition to anthocyanins, strawberries are the top berry source of the antioxidant quercetin, which may help prevent Alzheimer’s by protecting brain cells from oxidation. Tufts researchers found that strawberry-supplemented diets slowed and even reversed brain decline in animal studies. Another strawberry compound — C3G (cyanidin-3-glucoside) could help with weight management by regulating appetite and increasing fat-burning. Just one cup of strawberries provides an excellent source of manganese, a good source of fiber, and 150% of your daily vitamin C — all for a mere 166 calories a cup.

Research does show that berries are among the fruits highest in antioxidant content and that they are excellent sources of several phytochemicals that seem to help block cancer development. However, other fruits and vegetables provide different nutrients and phytochemicals with unique health benefits. The best advice, then, is to eat berries often for their great taste and health boost, but stay focused on the main goal of eating a wide variety of produce every day.

Strawberry Health Benefits

Strawberries are known as excellent sources of vitamin C which can lower risk of developing polyarthritis, an inflammation of the joints. Vitamin C works as antioxidant which attract and neutralize highly reactive molecules called free radicals that could otherwise damage body cells in ways that initiate cancer development, heart disease and age-related eye damage.

Moreover, Vitamin C can prevent the decline of motor and cognitive skills related to Alzheimer’s disease, lower the occurrence of gout, stabilize blood glucose, protect against macular degeneration, improve wound healing, reduce wrinkles, alleviate varicose veins, strengthen the gums, and melt gallstones.

Strawberry contained ellagic acid which is found also in raspberries and pomegranates. Extracts from red raspberry leaves or seeds, pomegranates, or other sources are said to contain high levels of ellagic acid and are available as dietary supplements in capsule, powder, or liquid form. The best dose of these preparations is not known.

Ellagic acid seems to have some anti-cancer properties. It can act as an anti-oxidant, and has been found to cause cell death in cancer cells in the laboratory. In other laboratory studies, ellagic acid seems to reduce the effect of estrogen in promoting growth of breast cancer cells in tissue cultures. There are also reports that it may help the liver to break down or remove some cancer-causing substances from the blood.

Strawberry Storage

Strawberries have a very low shelf life. It can only stay fresh for a day, but if refrigerated, it can stay fresh for about 3 to 4 days.

Cancer Treatment Recommendation
