I’m at the end of the 3rd day of a juice fast. Only fresh juices from the following: orange, pear, apple, lemon, grapefruit, cabbage, jalapeno pepper, broccoli, sweet potato, carrot, celery, cucumber, strawberry, blackberry, garlic. I’ve also taken a multivitamin/heart/fiber supplement each day. I’ve stuck strictly to this, no cheating.

Have done mild cardio/strength workouts in the first two days. No alcohol, drugs, etc. And in those first two days, also, about 30 minutes each day in sauna/steamroom. I’m not in particularly good shape: 6 feet tall, 220 pounds, 47 years old.

I have experienced no side effects whatsoever, which concerns me because they seem to be prominent in every juice-fast description I’ve read. No irritability, headaches, dizziness. Other than wanting some food, I’d have to say that I feel pretty much exactly as I always feel.

Could I be doing something wrong? I can’t imagine what, but I’m new at this.

    Thanks.

    Hi Czar,
Thanks for posting. Some people never get any negative effects from fasting like what you are experiencing. I am fasting with my girl friend and after 20 days all she had that was bad was a bit of weakness and a headache for a few hours.
You are doing it by the book (mine LOL). You can add a few tablespoons of essential oil, found in most health food stores. You are certainly getting a wide spectrum of nutrients with the variety of produce. Yea, keep training but later on you may have days where you are dragged out or ….maybe not. If you want, we can create a page for you. Just send a pic and some background.

I am 200 pounds and plan on fasting on distilled water for 30 days. I thought I would at least need to eat fruits and veggies during my fast but I decided to go cold turkey!

  4. Alta Swiegers says:

I want to start with a water fast on the 2 nd of January but I want to go on a long fast. I was on fast before but with water only up to 3 days, with juices up to 9 days. I just feel never well and want to increase my health.

I have never fasted before and I am currently on my third day. I would love to have a buddy to help me stay motivated through the tough times which I am sure are coming but haven’t yet. I have told myself if it gets to difficult I would add juice but so far so good. Please contact me if you would like to buddy up.
    Thanks,
    Carmen

    Hi Carmen

I am on day two I will be your buddy if you are looking for someone to talk with and stay motivated 🙂

  7. Carmen Thompson says:

    Hi there JJ,
I am so excited to have a buddy. How are you doing? So far I feel great. How long do you intend on fasting?
    Thanks,
    Carmen

  8. JJ says:

    Hello Carmen

I am doing good. I intend to do a 30 day juice fast. How are you? what kind of fasting are you doing and for what duration?

  9. Carmen Thompson says:

    Hi JJ,

I am also doing a 30 day fast and hoping to stick to water unless I start having trouble. Then I would add juice if need be. I am not having any trouble right now though.

  10. JJ says:

    Hi Carmen

Is this your first time fasting?

  11. Carmen Thompson says:

    Hello again JJ,

Yes, this is my first time and I am a little worried I guess you could say. It’s nice to have a buddy during the process. For the first time I have wanted to eat, but instead put a little lemon juice in my water (not much). I’m not sure if I am actually hungry or if my body wants to eat or if it is out of shear habit. Is this your first time? If not can you tell me a little of what to expect. Tomorrow will be day 5. I am so excited!
    Carmen

  12. JJ says:

    Hi Carmen

this is not my first time…but I have never water fasted before. With my job I need to be alert and I was afriad to try that. Once I am laid off I may try it. If you are on Day 5 you are doing well!

Feel free to email me if you want to talk other than a public forum. jess98@gmail.com

    Hi there,

I’m on day three of a lemon and maple syrup/cayenne pepper fast, not that hungry…stomach is growlin’ a little but it’s all good…I don’t know how long I want to go, I feel a little out of it, can’t focus on my work…but I like the weight loss (4 pounds in 2 days) and also praying for some clarity and simplicity in my life….I guess I will go as long as I can! I’d sure love to lose 30-40 pounds but I still need to have energy for surfing on the weekends! I think I need a support buddy at this point…this is all new to me. THANKS! AND GOOD LUCK!

  14. Donna says:

I worked with a lady whose husband started her on the lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper cleansing and 2 weeks into it she went into a coma, was in intensive care for 3 months and died. Yeast took over her body and started growing on her heart. I don’t suggest this cleansing to anyone unless you want to committ suicide. Please be very careful and speak with a doctor first.

    • Tom Coghill says:

      Hi Donna,
The info sounds suspicious. Yeast needs sugar and lowers during water fasting unless the amount of maple syrup was high.
I found where this info came from…..
      http://www.becomehealthynow.com/article/conditionwomen/416/

A yeast cell produces over 75 known toxic substances that consistently poisons the human body. These toxins contaminate the tissues where it weakens the immune system, the glands, the kidneys, bladder, lungs, liver and especially the brain and nervous system. Candida yeast can become so massive and invasive that is enters the FUNGAL form where it provides very long, root-like structures that penetrate the mucous lining of the gastrointestinal wall. This penetration breaks down the protective barrier between the intestinal tract and bloodstream, allowing many foreign and toxic substances to enter and pollute the body systemically. As a result, proteins and other food wastes that are not completely digested or eliminated can assault the immune system and cause tremendous allergic reactions, fatigue and many other health problems. It also allows the Candida itself and bacteria to enter the bloodstream, from which it may find its way to other tissues, resulting in far- ranging effects such as soreness of the joints, chest pain, sinus and skin problems, etc. An autopsy done on a lady who had died of heart failure for no apparent reason, found that her heart was encased with Candida yeast.

This death was not caused by a fast. Candida and lots of maple syrup is a bad idea.

I’m just starting day 5 of a water only fast. It’s hard to believe I made it this far. I want to fast for 20 days straight; if things keep going that way they have been, I’ll make it. It’s been hard. The first two days were ok, but then day three was very hard. I lost all energy and began getting dizzy. I’m glad I ran into this website because it helped me to understand what’s going on with my body. I also felt like I had the flu. But I made it; I spent a lot of time in bead. I’ve noticed that my sleep schedule is off. I guess it’s from the lack of food. I’m doing things slower because of the energy loss, but things are still getting done. I don’t have much in the way of hunger pangs, but when I’m not doing things, my thoughts turn to food. I’ve begun to notice how many food commercials there is on TV so I’ve limited my TV watching. It’s hard to believe I’ve made it this far – 5 days: I feel confident I’ll make it the next 15 days.

  16. JC says:

Hi, I am on day 3 of a water only fast. Today is very hard for me. I felt totally confident I could do this on the first 2 days, and now I am not so sure. I feel the worst in the morning, and I have to just sit around drinking water to get my strength back, and I am still not really energetic. I have not done an enema yet, and was going to do one this morning, but haven’t had the strength. I have also been taking 1 tablespoon of liquid bentonite to bind toxins in the morning. I am doing this fast because I took an ALCAT test, and have food allergies to 82 of the 200 foods they test for. The test also revealed I have a severe reaction to Candida, which I don’t understand how they can test for. The ALCAT test is done through a blood test. I want to starve the candida out of my body, but read this morning that it won’t work because the body converts muscle into glycogen because the brain needs some sugar, and so there is always some sugar in the body because of this for the candida to live off of. It said that it will weaken the candida, causing it to become dormant, and then coming back when I return to eating again. This information has taken some of my motivation away. Is this true? I did a juice fast once for 10 days, and had horrible spikes up and down. I chose not to do this because of the candida. I also have a large ovarian cysts that I am trying to get rid of , or I will need surgery. I don’t know if the water fast can help this. Thanks for any insight.

can anyone tell me if this is where I post questions on this site? I don’t see a “fasting questions” page. Thank you

  18. LIS says:

    Hello everyone-

I do a couple longer juice fasts a year (12-15 days) and every couple months do a 2 day fast, at least. I’ve been doing this for the past 5 years or so. This is my 9th day and this whole time has been a struggle. It has been so hard for me. Normally, after the fourth day, I don’t even care a thing about food. This is the first time I’ve ever had food cravings for complete junk food. It never affects me when people eat around me- junk food (which I don’t normally eat anyway) or anything. My family has cheetos, chocolate, chips, hummus dip, cake at home right now and I’ve been totally depressed and feel slighted. I’m doing this for me but I can’t figure out why this time is so hard. I’m down about 10 pounds and I like that part. My Mother died the 7th and I think I have some stress over that issue. Does anyone have any advice that might be helpful to me right now? Thank you

    • Tom Coghill says:

      Hi Liz,
Detoxing can cause depression and lethargy. I have often quite fasting because of it. The mind in that state seeks things to feed the mood and so you start to think of your mother’s death. You have to force you mind by counting your blessings and getting the message inside.

Hello everyone, today i am starting a juice fast. This is my second time fasting. My first water fast was some couple years back and i did it for spiritual reasons for 5 days. I cant believe how powerful fasting is and how great i felt after the 5 days. After i had my second child, i decided i wanted to fast but havent been successful at all. I am sooo glad i found this site so maybe i can get some encouragement. My question is: can i drink the canned juices out of the grocery store..meaning the V8 juices or fruit juices. I dont have a lot of time to prepare juices and wanted an easy way out!!

    • Tom Coghill says:

      Hi tomikaalsobrook
Easy ways do not get the best results. Sure you can use canned juices but you will not get that amazing fasting high and incredible revitalization that only comes with juice fasting. It is worth looking for a second hand juicer.

Hey what to you think of Intermittent Fasting?
Just eat every other day and on feeding days
    only eat plant based diet.
No processed or manufactured foods. No meat/Dairy.
Just 100% RAW Greens,Veggies, and Fruit with occasional
    no-salt seeds.
This is my diet anyway, just wanted to try only eating every
other day to give the digestive tract a break.
Plant based diet is very cleansing and detoxifying as it is
and it also digests quite easily and quickly.
I have a friend in California who has been doing this for better than a year and she feels fantastic.
But she doesnt eat plant based, just vegetarian.
I was fruitarian for 2 years after a master cleanse of 14 days.
And I was on top of the world, felt awsome and maintained a weight of 160 when before the master Cleanse I weighed 240.
Now Im back to 210 after dabbing back into the Standard American Diet now since this last christmas and have had a serious addiction to Dorritos and Dr. Pepper.
So 2 years fruitarian, back to 7 months now of junk food and soda I want to get back what I had.
I read about Intermittent fasting and it sounds like something I want to do along with once a month doing a 10 day
water fast. I read the book “The Miracle Of Fasting” by Paul Bragg 3 times now and I love that book.
Some say only fasting 24 to 36 hours has no benifits because the digestion doesnt shut down to heal and clean till day 3 but I think theres much benifit to fasting for any length beyond our sleep at night.
Also I see alot of talk on here of “hunger pangs” Im assuming thats the growling in the stomach.
Hunger is not felt in the stomach it is felt in the throat.
Ive never experienced true hunger but the growling in the stomach is simply digestion.
Something to think about when fasting those growlies are not hunger. At least from what Ive read around the web.
    Nice site, very informative!
And I love the success stories!
    Rob

    • Tom Coghill says:

      Hi offroadman
Rob, yes fasting every other day is great but hard to do for most people due to the hunger. It take a few days to get into the fasting state where you body is comfortable fasting. But it will work for sure. Let is know how it goes.

Well I’m on day 4 of my liquid fast and I feel good I went from 230lbs on Monday 11/9/09, drinking herbal laxatives to get out the waste that I binged days before today it’s 11/12/09 and I’m 222.6 lbs. Like the first time I did a 40 day fast years ago and lost 90 lbs, I loose about 2lbs per day. My mind is determined this time. I want to see 130lbs on that scale. I gained the weight back cause of emotional eating and I live across the street from Jack N the Box so when my boyfriend dumped me and I was pregnant I went from 170lbs to 300lbs with gestational diabetes. The Lord is awesome I am a single mother and my child is the best event that has ever happened to me after Salvation. Since all I’ve ever wanted was a child that need to “look ” for a relationship is gone. I have low dopamine anyways wchich is good cause being an emotional wreck has always been a downfall for me….until Jesus. Yeshua my lover, my provider and my friend. Financially things have been a bit hard but praiseful cause I’ve learned to trust in the Lord and not get so stressed out. He has been our provider and my child and I are very blessed. I just chopped off my long dred locs and am starting fresh with not putting toxins in my body through chemicals, I’m starting fresh with my body and want my youthful shape back that I lost 3 years ago. God is good and through His grace I will succeed with this goal.

Hello everyone. I’ve battled depression since I was in middle school but as I got older it only became worse. Most recently I have been using food as a coping mechanism and have developed a binge eating disorder. I have been overeating for about 2 years now. Because I am young I have managed to keep a healthy weight but I am not healthy and I do not feel healthy. To make matter more challenging I had an appendectomy about 2 1/2 years ago and my digestion has never been the same. I have always had a sensitive stomach but now I have constant stomachaches, bloating, and painful bowel movements. I am sure that the condition is made worse by my disorder but I think some of the it can be attributed to my surgery. The only think that made me feel better both physically and mentally was a water fast. This past September I fasted for 28 days and my whole world changed. However, four weeks after the fast everything spun out of control again and I fell back into my old habits. Since then I’ve gone to see a doctor about both my physical and mental health and she has suggested that I fast again but this time we’ll make sure I don’t make the same mistakes. I’m all for it but for some reason I just can’t stay on track. The first time I fasted it was a breeze. I didn’t have any trouble starting out. This time, I have started and failed about a dozen times and I’m nearly at the end of my rope. I need support. I can’t do this on my own. Please hear me and support me. I need to turn my life around. Today, I’m starting the first day of my water fast yet again. Please don’t let me fail.

PS On the third day of my most recent fast attempt I experience horrible abdominal pain, diarrhea, sweating, and chills. This has never happened to me so early in a fast before. Should I be worried? Is it just the detoxification?
